Derrick Rose is loyal friend and he showed it last night when his buddy was arrested by the LAPD for DUI. The Chicago bulls point guard, who won Most Valuable Player in 2011, was a passenger in a black BMW being driven by his close friend and personal assistant Randall Hampton after midnight last night when they were pulled over.
TMZ reports that law enforcement sources in the LAPD told them that Rose was not driving when cops stopped the car on a routine traffic violation at around 2:00 AM Friday morning.
When cops spoke to driver Hampton, who played high school basketball with Rose, officers claim they detected the odor of alcohol.
Hampton was given a field sobriety test and was then arrested on suspicion of DUI. Rose who was well-behaved was free to go. Hampton was taken to the Hollywood police station, where he was booked for his suspected drunken driving. Rose arrived at the station shortly afterwards to see what was happening with his buddy.
TMZ shot footage of Rose leaving the police station by himself at 3:00 AM … but he clearly wasn’t in a chatty mood. Hampton was released several hours later on his own recognizance.
There was no comment from Rose’s agent when he was asked why he would allow an allegedly drunk person to drive him around.
Did Wilt Chamberlain have a personal assistant? Did Pete Maravich?
