Why would you ever make an enemy out of Beyonce? Who would be that stupid? Well, an actress named Garcelle Beauvais, for one. According to Garcelle, who has very bravely, if unwisely, spoken out against Beyonce, musicians need to stop revealing so much skin and taking responsibility for their influence on young people.
Apparently, Beyonce should ‘take responsibility‘ for her sexy public image and performances, and she should stop, “everything showing out, grinding.”
She explains, “I want to do it in a way that’s more classy. Certain things are just too overt for kids. I love Beyonce … but, I think there has to be a fine line where you take responsibility for what you do. I think it’s good to be sexy, but sexy can come across in so many different ways. It doesn’t have to be showing out, grinding all of the time.”
Criticism of Beyonce is nowhere near the level that Miley Cyrus is facing right now, especially from concerned parents, but Beyonce’s performance at the Grammys was deemed too risque for younger viewers. It drew ire from a lot of families and censor boards across the country, although it was actually pretty tame compared to a lot of other Grammy acts. Her Bangerz tour has gone further, being a glorified exhibit of Miley masturbating and doing other things that this misguided entertainer deems ‘sexy.’
Then again, are musicians really that beholden to their fans? For Miley, a lot of her fans are younger and are therefore more impressionable. Can you argue that Beyonce’s fans are a lot more mature and wide-reaching, and thus won’t care? Or does neither argument make sense, especially if singers are ‘artistes’ and should be given the freedom to craft their own performances, however risque they may be?
