In a new interview Prince William defends Kate Middleton’s decision to make family and not Royal obligations a priority. The Duke of Cambridge takes his Royal responsibilities seriously, but right now his duties as a father are more important.
William revealed that the Royal family must modernize in order to remain relevant. Balancing work and family like everyone else seems to be the way that Prince William and Kate Middleton will accomplish this modernization.
Prince William sat down for a one-on-one interview with the BBC’s Nicholas Witchell just before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s trip to India and Bhutan.
The fact that the second-in-line to the throne would agree to be questioned regarding his personal life as well as commitment to crown and country shows just how much damage control the next generation of Royals’ needs.
“I take my responsibilities very seriously. But it’s about finding your own way at the right time and if you’re not careful duty can sort of weigh you down an awful lot at a very early age, and I think you’ve got to develop into the duty role,” Prince William revealed.
The Duke of Cambridge wants to focus on being a father, bringing Prince George and Princess Charlotte up as normal children as far out of the spotlight as possible. Kate Middleton and Prince William believe that George does not need to be burdened with what his future holds for a very long time.
William told the BBC reporter he plans to step away from his duties as an air ambulance pilot when the prince’s contract is up in about a year.
It’s not that William doesn’t want to work, he’s just clearing up the schedule a bit in anticipation of being assigned more Royal obligations. “When the Queen decides she’s going to hand down more responsibilities, I’ll be the first person to accept them,” William assures one and all.
Why hasn’t Queen Elizabeth given the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge more responsibility? According to William grandfather Prince Philip is “unwilling to slow down and my grandmother is very much at the helm.”
Prince William goes on to say that his father Prince Charles is extremely busy and there are so many hard-working members of the Royal family that he admires and thinks are doing a bang up job.
The aging senior Royals are all running around working like crazy and Prince William and Kate Middleton are going to stay home and raise Prince George and Princess Charlotte as normal children.
Perhaps William has had a crisis of conscience when it comes to marriage and family. Maybe the prince truly does not want to follow in the footsteps of his adulterous and oftentimes absentee father.
