Queen Elizabeth’s retirement plans have been put on hold. There’s a new report indicating that the Queen is worried that Britain’s monarchy won’t survive without her. In fact, royal insiders believe that Queen Elizabeth is not ready to abdicate the throne or leave the public stage just yet. It’s because she knows no one in the royal family is ready to replace her.
Queen Elizabeth has been forced out of the spotlight due to a heavy cold she was suffering from during the holiday weekend. Her absence has prompted many royal insiders to wonder if the 90-year-old Queen is getting ready to step down. At this point, though, no one knows who will lead after Queen Elizabeth announced her retirement.
Royal commenter John Lloyd even wrote, “It is on paper simple: to her eldest son, Charles, Prince of Wales, 68 last month. But here’s the rub. Though less unpopular than he was during the divorce from Princess Diana in 1996, and after her death in 1997, his approval ratings remain mediocre, and even admirers think he should abjure the throne for his elder son, Prince William.”
Sources say the only problem with Prince William being the next King of England is that he’s not dedicated enough to lead the monarchy. After all, both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge put in the least amount of work this year compared to the rest of the royal family. Prince William and Kate Middleton might be the most popular royals, but they are also called a ‘work-allergic’ couple that would rather go on multiple vacations each year than work. And that’s the problem right there.
The Queen is worried that the monarchy will be left in shambles if Prince William is made King of England. But at the same time, she knows Prince Charles is not her number one choice either, according to royal insiders. Even with her current health issues, Queen Elizabeth has no choice but to get back to work. She’s the one who legitimizes all the laws and appoints all the ministers.
It’s without a doubt that Queen Elizabeth is worried about the future of the monarchy. After all, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry don’t put enough effort into their public appearances, charities, and royal engagements. That’s why sources say the Queen is refusing to step down.
