‘Wayward Pines’ spoilers for Season 2 Episode 3 ‘Once Upon a Time in Wayward Pines’ reveal that a sinister character from Season 1 is back – Nurse Pam Pilcher (Melissa Leo). At the end of last season, she was cooperating with now-dead Kate Hewson (Carla Gugino) and then was put into cryo sleep.
Jason Higgins (Tom Stevens) wakes when he hears a noise in the house he shares with Kerry Campbell (Kacey Rohl) and pulls a gun then goes to investigate. He finds Nurse Pam on his couch. Later, Jason talks to the townfolk about moving forward with “forgiveness” in regards to Pam the brother-killer.
Rebecca Yedlin (Nimrat Kaur) tells Theo Yedlin (Jason Patric) that he needs to stop asking questions but the persistent doc insists he can’t do it. But once Theo meets Pam Pilcher, he might finally get the answers he needs – even though he won’t like the truth.
When Pam and Theo talk, he asks what she knows that others don’t and she says “everything.” No doubt Theo will be stunned to learn he’s talking to the co-founder of the town since she was David Pilcher’s (Toby Jones) sister and closest confidante – and ultimately the tool of his destruction.
CJ Mitchum (Djimon Hounsou) comments that what they do in Wayward Pines is so “unnatural.” We get a closer look at one of the Abbies that Megan Fisher (Hope Davis) told her students that they keep in a cage and monitor while they experiment on the creature.
We see a newborn baby placed into a cryo sleep chamber – why? And someone has tagged a house with blood-red paint that reads “murderer” and it looks like a Nurse Pam effigy has been hung on the tree out front. Looks like the townies are NOT happy that Pam killed their fearless leader.
Megan reveals to Theo that Pilcher, in addition to stockpiling humans, stockpiled deadly viruses including smallpox. Pam tells Jason that “it’s time for a reckoning.” Will the viruses be used to try and defeat the Abbies or to thin the herd in Wayward Pines?
The episode title refers to the backstory that will be presented, via flashbacks, about how Jason was raised specifically to lead the town as the golden child of the First Generation. Thanks to the flashbacks, we’ll get another look at Sheriff Pope (Terrence Howard) and some other blasts from the past.
Will this episode give us a more sympathetic look at why Jason is only a product of his raising? Or will it make his actions all the more chilling? Will Theo be able to stop Nurse Pam from whatever evil plan she’s cooking since she was thawed out?
