The Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Scott (Daniel Hall) will learn who the mystery woman is that heads the prostitution ring that has invaded Genoa City. His brave choice to go undercover revealed that Crystal (Morgan Obenreder) was being punished by a woman. Might that be her and Tessa’s (Cait Fairbanks) mother?
This arc is not only engaging by socially relevant. Yes, some may be unwilling to invest their time in such an unseemly storyline. But soap operas have long been used as forums to promote causes.
Tessa’s fear of Zack (Ryan Ashton) was an instant red flag, when that character was first introduced. Any former significant other would generally react with anger if the person who caused past tension was a romantic history link. Tessa’s response indicated that he’d harmed her in some way, or had been involved in dealings she ran away from.
Zack’s subsequent claim that he couldn’t help her locate Crystal was seen by viewers as highly suspicious. Their instincts were quickly confirmed as he immediately called an unseen person to apparently report what Crystal told him about law enforcement’s involvement in the matter.
Y&R decided to mix the topic of prostitution rings with dating apps, as Zack’s introduction and cover story profession are demonstrating. Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) lack of business savvy enabled her to agree to financially back Zack’s incubator company. Her seeming lack of a background check has put Newman Enterprises in a very bad business position.
Scott’s split profession was revealed months ago when Christine (Lauralee Bell) asked him to accept an undercover government assignment. That stunning bit of dialogue lengthened Scott’s backstory and telegraphed the current drama he opted to inserted himself into.
Looking back fans can now see deeper reasons why Scott was paired with Sharon (Sharon Case). Shott formed after Dylan (Steve Burton) departed. Scott and Sharon quickly bonded because he was a decent guy who had a similar personality. He respected Sharon and didn’t see her as someone who needed to be being rescued.
Sharon’s daughter, Mariah (Camry Grimes), formed a friendship with Tessa. Fairbank’s character quickly became Noah’s (Robert Adamson) girlfriend after Nikki (Robert Adamson) discovered her outside of Crimson Lights, which Sharon now runs independently.
Sharon’s work at the Crisis Hotline also syncs, as that’s how Case’s character came to know Crystal. Tessa’s presence in Sharon’s family’s life, which allowed her to become aware of Crystal’s situation, is a bit soapy but can certainly be digested. And, Scott’s inclusion also makes sense.
