‘This is Us’ season finale spoilers indicate that fans might not be seeing Jack’s funeral this season after all. Instead, it looks like the main characters will be watching Kevin (played by Justin Hartley) doing what he loves the best, and that’s performing on stage.
In fact, Mandy Moore, who plays Rebecca on the show, even shared a photo of the cast filming the season finale on her Instagram account. They appeared to be sitting in an auditorium or a church with everyone dressed in black. Many believed that the photo looked like Jack’s funeral in the present day. But Mandy assured everyone that wasn’t the case.
After fans started freaking out, Mandy captioned the photo with, “Good day at the office. Sad to say goodbye to these faces for the season. Too much fun. Too many laughs. #thisisus #thebackofanegg. The photo is dark. No one is in black actually. Everyone breathe. We’re at Kevin’s play. Hence the hashtag.
So does this mean that viewers won’t be seeing Jack’s funeral during the This Is Us season finale after all? Some viewers believe so. Mandy even admitted that she and Milo will be playing Jack and Rebecca for at least another two seasons.
Yet, Jack’s funeral has proven to be a key element for the show. Viewers first saw hints of Jack’s funeral during one of Kate Pearson’s flashbacks (played by actress Chrissy Metz) at her immersive weight loss camp. Although no one knows for sure, Jack’s death appeared to happen while siblings Kate, Kevin and Randall were teens. So does this mean that Jack’s funeral will come with more twists and surprises? At this point fans don’t know the details surrounding Jack’s death, other than how it has affected all of his kids as adults.
But fans should still expect the season finale to be a shocker, according to the show’s creator, Dan Fogelman. He recently told Entertainment Weekly, “People are going to have to put on their seat belts. I just wrote the finale today, and it’s a doozy.”
Of course, viewers will simply have to tune in to see what happens next. For now, fans will see Jack and Rebecca’s marriage in the February 7th episode. ‘This is Us’ airs every Tuesday at 9pm EST on the NBC network.
