Hi Annemarie, Robyn and readers at Celebrity dirty laundry !

I?m currently super busy with work, as always and really trying to find time for everything. But its all good. Here is the article for this week. It is about networking and building your name online as a model.

So here goes, sure, trusting and having a modeling agency doing all the work for you is okay. However, it has never been enough for me, in my opinion. As a model you can never trust other people to do the job for you 24/7. So I suggest you get out there and join different online communities and participate in different forums to build your portfolio. Make new friends with photographers and other models from other places around the world. This goes for new aspiring and professionals models. I will give you a couple of links to different websites that will be useful for you to market yourself better, and get that exposure that might just get you booked you for the next big thing ?

I?m more or less 24/7 online working to improve my own marketing and online profiles, and so should you. In todays world, all the resources are there and available right in front of our eyes. We just need to know how to make use of it. If you are looking for any modeling agency around the world. A good website directory would be.

  1. www.kmodels.com
  2. www.jurgita.com
  3. www.supermodels.nl
  4. www.modelnetwork.com

There are a couple other one, but these are enough to find what you need for now. Here are some online communities you definitely should join. www.modelmayhem.com most of their members are from the USA. So if you are in that area. Check it out asap. You can meet many good photographers there who wants to build their portfolio, and that?s a great way to expand your portfolio and network for free.

also join these communities:

  1. www.modellaunch.com
  2. www.onemodelplace.com
  3. www.supermodels.com
  4. www.models.com

I don?t want to drag this posting to long. remember its not about howlong it is. Its about what comes out of it ;) Like all UNIVERSALPLAYERS know and are aware of.

Have a great weekend to you, and keep on playing, NEVER STOP.

Yours truly,
UNIVERSAL PLAYER

Hugs?.

Patrick

Welcome to my world!

Each week I give you a backstage pass to all the things I experience daily as a UNIVERSAL PLAYER right here at Celebrity Dirty Laundry. It?s everything about FASHION, PARTIES, MODELS, CELEBRITIES, TRAVEL, FOOD, SHOPPING, WINE and DINING that life has to offers. I?ll show how you can achieve this rare & action-packed life by following my my weekly feature. Of course any questions or comments you have please let me know! Looking forward to guide YOU to a successful career!

1. Open call - means the modeling agency are open to your call to try your luck to become a model.

2. Casting- is when clients, photographers or production houses calls the models from different agencies in your area or worldwide depending on the job.

3. Booking- is when you have been confirmed 100% for a job.

4. Direct booking- is when a client or agency is flying you from another country to another for a job. Direct bookings usually are paid more then normal jobs. It means as well that all of your expenses like (Air ticket, accommodation and food is being paid by the client excluding the budget for the job.

5. Booker- is the person that books you for jobs through clients. Keep regular contact with your bookers at all time. If you can, treat them to lunch, snacks and goodies while visiting the office. Remember without them, you won?t be working very much. I?m sure it will be very much appreciated.

6. Head booker- Is the person who is in Charge of all the bookings of models. Almost like a manager.

7. Go Sees- are when you just have arrived in town to work as a model. The agency is setting you up with meeting to see clients, photographers etc.

8. Call back- is when clients, photographers etc have short listed few interesting models for the project. Try to stay as focus, presentable and as excited as possible when getting a call back.

9. Set card / Comp card - is something all new, aspiring and professional models need to work in the industry. Set card/Comp card is what the agency will send to their clients, photographers and everyone in the industry that could give you work the next week.

10. Portfolio- is the one with all your photos and work that you will present to clients while attending their castings-go-sees and call backs. A great Portfolio takes time to build everybody knows that. That is why it is so important when you get a job to do the best job possible and take every opportunity presented. Be creative and give a lot of constructive input that may help the shoot. Be patient, don?t refuse any option or offer that may improve your portfolio! Don?t miss any opportunity whether you have to do it for free or you are getting paid. Remember, money is not everything ;)

11. Casting Directors- is the person in charge of selecting the right cast/models for the modeling or TV projects. It?s good to keep a close relationship with casting directors as they are the one who can recommend you for work. Keep in close contact with them at all times. A good piece of advice is while meeting Directors have a CD with your all your past work (Commercials, photos and contact details) If they can?t reach you through your agency.

12. Tear sheet- is the work you use for your own portfolio. Magazine works are called tear sheets.

13. Mother Agency- is the one who looks after YOU as a model. A good mother agency always makes sure their models are being presented for work in different markets worldwide. Mother agencies fees are always 10% of the model total gross earnings. It?s important the mother agency is working for your best interest and vice versa, Remember the mother agency is there for you. You are their client and they should treat you like that. But don?t forget to be there for the agency as well. I can honestly say, it is better to be a important model in a smaller agency then a nobody in a big agency. Bigger and more famous modeling agencies always supply their top models first before the rest. I myself freelance model worldwide, and don?t have a mother agency representing me anymore. Part of it because I have createda name for myself in the fashion industry. And it works really well for me!

Feel yourself through the masses of agencies that are available and find what suits you best.

Additionally I have my own modeling agency Ribbsaeter Models and I only charges models 5% of their earnings compare to other mother agencies who charge 10%. I do this because I want to encourage my model and I want them to make more money!

Love, hugs & kisses?

Hi Everyone at Celebrity Dirty Laundry !

Another week has passed and what have we all learned from it? This week?s column is a continuation from last week?s posting about different International Markets for modeling work.

This week we will be talking about Dubai, Greece and Turkey. A great place for models starting out who want to build their portfolio is Athens in Greece. This is because of all the different variation of magazines, such as high Fashion, Glamour, Men magazine, Car magazine, Women magazine etc.

Greece has more then 70 different magazines and is always in a constant search for models for their editorials. There are a few very good agencies in Greece of many. Many models are searching in to Greece to build their book and to enjoy the beautiful country, food, weather and parties it offers everyday.

The Greek market can be very good for some models and for some not, like any other market. Frankly for me, it wasn?t that good. I really don?t know the reason. It is odd generally I clean up most jobs in every market I travel too. The Greek market has a large demand for Blond models and dark big guys with Muscles. Greece is not the best place to make money, and most models are aware of this fact. An editorial can pay a model a very low amount of money. It can pay as low as 50 USD for a photo-shoot. On top of that there is the agency commission, so you can see it is not great. But that?s really ok if you are a model who is looking to build your portfolio. There is still the opportunity to do commercial and print work to make money from.

Going to casting in Athens can be a hassle if the agency you?re working for does not provide a car. Unfortunately many agencies do not. I can remember a few years ago, it was only Elite Agency who provided a car for their models to travel in. Since it has been a few years since I was there, there may have been changes within the other agencies. The weather and the islands in Greece is amazing. Greek people like to stay out, relaxing in coffee shops or go clubbing in the night time. Athens is a very happening city almost every night. There are massive night clubs along them are Glefada Beach, where all the celebrities, models and hot people shake their asses. A very good place to Party is Venue Club and Akrotiri as well as Desteel Club during the weekends. A hot/popular spot for models to go is Buddha bar, where most of the city, models and celebrities go to chill out and spend time together. Most of the night clubs in Greece have models night set up, drinks, food etc.

Day time while attending castings can be a hassle, because Athens is a very big and wide spread city to live in. There is a lot of traffic and pollution. One day out and your face is Black. Many models are taking the subway and busses to casting. I prefer to spend a bit more but travel conveniently. This is an investment in you. Another idea is split a cab with other models from your agency. The castings are usually very far from each other and it can be a lot of walking. So make sure to have those sneakers on hand and ready to walk. The agency supplies their models with map, which they of course deduct at the end of contract like everything else. Nothing comes free for models except Alcohol, Food and drugs. Ha, ha, ha… I wonder why? Agencies usually charge their models 30 % commission. Not many agencies pay advances for their models to come. Models flying to Greece usually need to have their flight booked themselves, Hotel etc. Agencies arrange apartment or Hotels for their models at a lesser cost. A month stay could set you back around 600-700 USD. Greece can be a very expensive place for many models. This is most especially the case if they not working that much there. Stay focused, and think business and everything will be OK!

Turkey Where should I start talking about Turkey? I don?t have many good things to say about the Fashion work in Turkey. Except perhaps that they have many good photographers that work internationally and create some amazing editorials shoots. Most of the work in turkey is catalogue work, a bit of commercial work and some magazines. Turkey is a big exporter market for fabrics and textile. So there are always brands popping up everywhere and a high demand for models. The problem with Turkey is that there are far to many agencies under cutting each other and many models. Who are not very good! It is not like the Turkish clients think too much on their brand. That is of course, my opinion! Of course in Business you should always cut costs, depending on the investments of course. But I have seen some clients just taking crap models because they are a couple of hundreds dollars cheaper. In fact I myself are working with the top agency in Istanbul, and the rates for models in this agency are 3-4 times more then other agencies fees. But the quality of models as well is better. Photo-shoots in Turkey are often Ok. Not much stress and very relaxed. Stylists, photographers? assistants are very accommodating. At least they are trying to be. I had a lot of fun working there because of all the people and friends I met. Without meeting them, I would have hated Istanbul. Istanbul is a very beautiful city that is divided between Europe and Asia. There is bridge that separates these two borders from each other. The pros and the cons of Turkey are: The pros - are that the agency has a car for models to move around in for casting and jobs. The cons - are that you will be stuck in this car all day long with long traffic jams and squeezed between a few models. Which sometimes isn?t that bad, depending on who you sitting with of course ;)

Please always make sure to bring your own healthy food and drinks. Not Alcohol OK! Hee hee! The agencies in Turkey supply their models with weekly allowances as well as advance Accommodation air-ticket etc. Again, this will be deducted at the end of the contract. Editorial work pays between 100-200 USD. Catalogues if you work with my agency Fashion Ajans? its between 800 USD and up to 1500 USD a day depending on the job. TV-Commercial ranges between 2000 USD to 5000 USD and higher a day. Campaigns vary from different brands. Turkey certainly can be an expensive place to live in.

Also I must caution you - make sure to watch out for all the cheaters. Unfortunately, there are far too many of them Turkey. Istanbul is quite an unpleasant place for beautiful women as the Turkish men don?t have much respect for women. So walking alone during night isn?t the best thing to do. Always try to remember the way taxis takes you, they often love to take the longest route with their clients. On the other hand if you?re out to party and have fun, there are many good places to go depending on the season you travel to Turkey. A popular place is Ulus 29 and Reinar club. Very hip, this is where all the rich and beautiful people go late night. Make sure to bring a big wallet with you. The restaurant bills are quite large compared to other countries. If you not lucky to find yourself a rich man or woman to take you out, then you will have to pay. Other then that, Istanbul has very beautiful architecture. The small walking streets with busy coffee shops, Bars and restaurants are very pleasant to spend time with friends. Have some nice cheese and white wine its a must while visiting Istanbul. And the food is very delicious yum yum. Don?t have high hopes on the work in Turkey as you will be competing to models of low caliber and cheaper ones then you.

Dubai has established itself as a major worldwide tourist destination, It?s rapidly developing into a cosmopolitan city located on the coast offering miles of white sandy beaches and warm turquoise seas. As well as the beach life visitors come to Dubai for the superb shopping, Arabian cuisine and the desert. Dubai is one the seven Emirates that makes up the United Arab Emirates and is the second largest. Most of the year Dubai is warm and humid, averaging 40? degrees in the summer months. Please note temperatures in the summer can exceed 45+ so it is very important to keep hydrated. During winter, the temperatures drop to between 24?- 30? so a jumper in the evenings can be a necessity. Dubai is conveniently located only 6 hours from London and all major airlines including British Airways and Emirates have daily flights. Dubai is very cosmopolitan in lifestyle and welcomes most nationalities and religions. The main practiced religion is Islam. The local women are covered but there is no dress code for visitorsand/or foreign residents, although a respect of the country and its religion is advised.

The local currency is UAE Dirhams and Fils. The Dirham is tied to the US dollar. Do not exchange money at the airport there are many banks and exchange houses in town offering more competitive rates. Bring either cash or dollars, travelers checks are not so easy to exchange. All major credit cards are recognized. The official weekend for government sectors in Dubai is Thursday afternoon and Friday, although many private companies recognize Friday and Saturday as their weekend. The Bareface office is closed on Friday and Saturday although Saturday is still an active day for model bookings. Being a major tourist destination Dubai offers numerous activities and ways to spend your weekends and free time. The beach is a great place to unwind and relax; beaches are sandy, open and safe. There are plenty of beach clubs which you can join for 1 month, they contain first class gyms, and most gyms offer a good selection of classes. For the more adventurous, the desert offers camping trips, dune driving, sand boarding and camel rides. Dubai is a shoppers haven. The air-conditioned shopping malls house all well known brands such as: Gucci, Armani, Ralph Lauren, Zara, Mango, and Debenhams. Starbucks, Costa Coffee, Mac Donalds and Burger King are all available. For those tempted by the more ethnic Arabia explore the traditional souks ( gold, silver and spice souks ) After all Dubai is known as the city of Gold Alternatively if you are looking for fakes there are plenty in the form of handbags, designer clothes and watches in Karama. Dubai has a plentiful nightlife, beach parties, clubs, pubs and concerts. Please be sensible we are watching!

Dos and Don?ts in the UAE you need to be 21 and over to legally buy or consume alcohol, that includes club entry! Although alcohol is legal in Dubai there are stiff penalties for drunk driving, and under age drinking? You could end up with a hefty fine or even a jail sentence, likewise with Drugs? The penalty for Drugs in Dubai is life imprisonment. Clothing - swimsuits and bikinis are fine for the beach and pool you can wear short skirts and tight fitting clothes, but it is more respectful to be less revealing and stop the men ogling.

Female and male models should ideally be of a Mediterranean appearance. The greater demand is for dark hair, however eye color is not restricted and skin tones can be pale. Female models should ideally be at least 175cm and men 180cm plus, bodies should be thin and toned. A good smile is important as is a good catwalk presence. Most of our work is commercial. The type of work available: Print/Press; ads; Fashion shows TVC Corporate Video; Corporate brochure; Hotels; Airlines, properties; Editorial ( only a small amount of magazine work but it is growing! Dubai?s population is only Dhs 2 million. Many people have a false preconception of Dubai and expect huge earnings and mega buyouts. The City is oil rich but in terms of advertising and consumers it is a small market. We work on the same percentages as South Africa, use this as a guideline. Please bring with you In advance or on arrival we would require a 2nd book and approx. 100 composite cards. Depending on your passport you may or may not require a visit visa. In either case stay is restricted to 60 days. Once in Dubai models must remain exclusive to xxxxxxxx Agency, you will be required to sign a 1 year exclusivity contract. We require you to bring a good selection of clothes, shoes and accessories. You may be requested to take along your own wardrobe on a shoot. Clothes must be in good condition. We ask you to appear well groomed and well dressed when visiting clients- no grunge please, no exposed midriffs, our clients appreciate International models looking sophisticated and classy. Please wear make-up and have nails neat and manicured and hair in tip top condition.

Accommodation will be a flat/villa share either with other models or the owners. Our accommodation is of a high standard. We estimate rent of Dhs 500 - 700 per week. Food and eating out can be relatively cheap, so your expenses largely depend on your lifestyle. Wherever you stay you will be responsible for any telephone/internet charges and purchasing of your own good and drinks. Your Expenses, any expenses which may include (dependant on your guarantees- if any) visas, flights, accommodation, sim card, driver, laser copies, scans, copy books, couriers etc will be added to your account and be deducted from the final balance. You can check your account with our accountant. Travel Dubai does not have a train system and only a very limited bus service. When traveling we advise you to take government taxis ( the yellow colored metered cabs) they are safe and inexpensive. Alternatively we could arrange for you to hire a car, you would need to bring your driving license. Your first days in Dubai will be spent on go-sees, normally with another model. There are not many go-sees to be taken so you may on some days find yourself with free time on your hands.

MARKETS FOR MODELING WORK !

This week I will be talking about new and old markets for modeling. Why do I feel this is important? The reason is many models are asking and wondering where to go for work.

We all know about the fashion capital Milan , Paris and New York. These are the major cities in the world to gain exposure and to make good money in the modeling business. More models are tapping in to the business and competition is getting harder everyday. There are some markets on the rise and that we should look out for. To me, Asia has big a place in my heart from food, people, cultures etc. For those who are seeking new shores to try out. Should listen carefully now and follow me.

1. Hong Kong: This market is good to make money in. Many models like to work in Hong kong because of the fast and hip lifestyle the city brings. There is a wide variety of restaurants, clubs, beaches, Shopping, exhibitions. Art, Leisure. Working in Hong Kong can be a good experience for some models and not fore others. Hong Kong clients like half mixes or caucasian models I would say. Many of the high paying jobs in Hong-Kong are for Print ads, Tv-commercials and Campaigns.

Next to Hong- Kong there is China(Guangzhou, Shenzen) which are two major places for export of textile. Many chinese clients like to bring models from Hong-Kong for their catalogues shoots. It can be a hassle for some models traveling everyday on and off from Hong-Kong to China. Trust me, I have done it. But its all part of the game.

For those who are looking for good agencies to work in Hong-Kong and China. I couldn?t recommend any better one then Models International. Models International has been in the industry for many many years and have setup an excellent system/organization. They are able run four offices in four different cities smoothly (Head office Hong-Kong, Guangzhou,Shanghai, Beijing). The great thing with Models International is they have many clients and direct booking on
hand.

Check them out for yourself.
MODELS HONGKONG

2. Bangkok, Thailand - The market in Bangkok has been on a rise for the past 3 years. The ability to make more money and the import of models have helped this. making money and massive import of models. Also, magazines are doing better and more challenging photo shoots. Working in Thailand is a pleasure, because you are always surrounded by people who encourage you and smile all the time. Thai service is among the best in the world, I must honestly say!

Much of the jobs are Commercial work. Like Tv-commercials, Print ads. The job rate is magazine 150 USD and up. Print job pays between 1000 USD up to 3000 USD per day. Tv-commercials are the one all models want to score in Thailand. Many worldwide commercials are being produced in Thailand because of many great Directors, Producers and production houses available. This is where a model can score big bucks if lucky. Tv-commercials ranges everything between 1.500 USD to 20-30.000 USD. and more. All these rate depend on the buyouts and contract agreement. The costs for producing a Tv-commercial is much lower in Thailand compared to other countries in the world. Thailand also has beautiful scenery.

A good choice if you decide to go to Bangkok is to fly in alone and then contact the agencies to setup a meetting. There are many agencies in Bangkok (thailand now) who are fighting for the jobs. Some agencies are under cutting the market trying to survive in the business.

One very good and reputable agency in bangkok, is mode models(modemanagement). Although, in the past years the agency reputation has declined because of poor management. A good agency to look out for and that I would recommend is Izreps models. They have grown and established a good professional name in the Thai industry.

You can check two of these agencies here:
MODE MODELS

IZ REPS MODELING AGENCY

3. India - The new emerging market everyone is talking about right now is India. India is a major place for movies and the entertainment business as well its export and computer softwares. Everyday a brand is being launched in India. And like we all know, every brand needs a face. So there are jobs everyday for a model with good agency / representation. India is still in its beginning stage compared to the rest of the world. It?s developed in many other ways and continues to grow with a fast speed.

Working in India can be a task itself. On photo shoot sets, 30-40 extras can be around excluding the photographer , hair & makeup and stylist. At the moment, the agencies tend to have a lot of people instead of concentrating on a small team of 4-5 people who know their stuff well. Photo shoots can take ages?

The biggest and most happening city is Mumbai (called Bombay until 2-3 years ago when it changed its name). After Mumbai there is also two more major markets to work in. Dehli and Banglore city, both of them very great place for work. Bangalore focuses on fashion shows and clients usually fly their models for preassigned bookings. Delhi is the capital of India. Its very wide spread and exciting city to be in and mainly focuses on catalogue work.

Working and making money in india is good, because clients usually pay cash to the agencies after the job is finished or within a few days by cheque.

India is the same as Thailand, all models are looking for commercials. It is a great way to get noticed by important film people in the Bollywood industry and sometimes leads to a great movie career.

Next week I will present some more markets.

Hope this posting was useful to you.

Stay good and keep reading CELEBDIRTYLAUNDRY.COM

Hi Everyone at Celebrity Dirty Laundry! It’s a pleasure bringing you all news from around real world of fashion.Today’s hot topic is about the Do and Don’ts to become a good model. Why I chose to bring this up is because its a very important subject people/models are aware of but don’t really seem to follow. Sometime I could be one of them.Modeling is a tough business behind that beautiful stage, magazine and how television projects it. Few models actually succeed to become a top model today. The competition is very high. More beautiful girl and guys are being launched everyday from modeling agencies around the world in hope of being the next top model. With the talk of being a top model, it comes with responsibilities. Most elements people are talking about, is working out, eating healthy, drink a lot of water, get enough rest etc.. This is all true and important things to think and apply to becoming a good model. But there’s more in it, if you want to be a Top model.I will share with you some very important lessons to think off, on the road to being a Top model.1. Always be on time. This is crucial to becoming a top model and the best in your business. Try to arrive at least 15 - 20 minutes earlier then expected time.2. Trust your agency in what they say, but of course keep in mind that if you are not feeling good with something, you shouldn’t do it. Ex: Cutting your hair etc. Of course there are sacrifices to becoming a Top model. You must choose !3. Don’t complain. I’ve come across far to many male & female models complaining while on set/ Photo-shoot. Nobody likes to hear complaining, so shut that mouth and get positive instead. If a you don’t have anything good to say, you might as well keep your mouth shut.I remember working with these models who were complaining because of the food “Its cold”, “It’s to Hot”, “There are to many people around looking at the shoot” etc etc and Blah blah. If any of these elements bug then then I suggest you to change career. If you really love your work, you wouldn’t complain right? Complaining wont take you to the Top.The best way to keep your mind from disturbing elements, is by bringing a book or something to read for your photo-shoot. This is a great way to maximize your time and get the most out of your day. Remember time is expensive. Use it
well to improve always.

4. The myth about food. That’s bullshit! I eat a lot! In fact everything, but with control of course.

5. Be cooperative and still take control. At all times try to listen to what the photographer has to say and wants. Although, don’t be afraid of the photographer. Take control and give your inputs about how you want the pose to look like. Sometimes a pose that is working for a model might look terrible on another one. It’s just how it is.

Giving inputs shows that you are responsible and want to perfect your job.

6. Dress and look the game. If you don’t believe you are a Top model, nobody else will. It all starts with yourself. To Far often I’ve come across models who dress to sloppy and look like they just came out of a dumpster. Just because you want to dress casual, doesn’t mean you can’t look good. Leave those Flip flops back home or where they belong on the beach. A casting is not a place forflip flops to show up. Get the game !

7. Invest in yourself. Far to many models don’t invest in themself as they should. I have seen it far to many times.

I remember one time walking with a model to purchase a gym card for him and myself. It turned out the gym card would cost him about 50 USD per month. Which is not a lot of money for a guy making a lot of money. It was obviously to much to invest for some reason! I thought it was strange for a guy making thousands of dollar each month!

8. No Excuses. Go out there and do what you told to do and more. There are no excuses for not doing your job well. People hate excuses. In my days of working as a scout. I have come across many models giving excuses back and forth. To having stomach ache or a death etc

I did it myself when I was new, but I learned! Don’ ever give excuses to people.

9. Stay in Shape and feel good. Do just what you feel like. You will attract talents and professional around you.

This week post is short due to work commitments. :( Sorry.

Hope this information was useful to you.

Now put this in to action everyday.

First I would like to say thank to Celebrity Dirty Laundry for creating and giving me this rare opportunity having my own column on their website!Sorry, if my explanations aren?t the best, but hey no excuse I?m a model right!

My first Interview will go to my very good designer friend, Joe! He just launched his own brand called ?Krane? in Bangkok Thailand, September 12, 2007. I have known Joe for about 4-5 years, since my first days in Bangkok, Thailand! It truly feels great seeing friends grow and expanding their dreams and visions. I?m forever thankful that Joe has given me this rare opportunity to interview him.

Ok, Let?s start the interview.I called Joe late Saturday night, to set up the meeting with him for the coming week. We decided set up our appointment for Tuesday afternoon, which turned out to be evening time because I ran late with my other business meetings. I waited for Joe to show up at Starbucks coffee shop at Siam Paragon Bangkok, Thailland. Located in the heart of Bangkok, Siam Paragon is the first mega shopping complex in Thailand, offering a magnificent and elegant shopping experience as it houses various world-class international brands and flagship stores of the most prestigious hi-end brands; truly a shopping paradise for brand name lovers. The slogan of Siam Paragon is ?the Pride of Bangkok?.This is where Joe has had his own clothing line showcased since May 2007. It was Siam Paragon who recognized his talent, unique style and approached Joe about putting out his clothes in their department store area called ?Dress code? on the first floor in Siam Paragon.

Waiting for Joe at Starbucks Siam Paragon, gave me time to think of the questions I was going to ask him. Since this is my first really important interview, I wanted it to be good. 30 minutes before Joe came. I had been jotting down a whole bunch of questions to ask him. I was nervous to be honest..Joe, arrived 10 minutes before we where supposed to meet. I was smart to show up early! Points to me! Fresh from the gym, Joe was ready to talk business and show the world what he has in the pipeline.

During, 2001 to 2002 Joe started teaching fashion design in Chiangma (Thailand). He showed and took the students around to different locations in Bangkok. Some of those places was his family?s business where they produce night wear and distribute to other countries like England and America, as well as having their own shop in Central Bangkok area and some of the leading department stores. The students got the chance to learn all the technical part behind the fashion industry. Which is a very important tool to understand becoming a great fashion designer.

Joe also took his students behind the scenes in Bangkok and gave them a chance to see backstage of real Fashion Shows etc. Which many of these students don?t have access in their daily life unfortunately. For Joe this was a way to educate his students as well give back to the community.

After one year of teaching, Joe?s father got sick and he stopped teaching to help out with the family business. Joe helped out his family for five years. After two years, Joe knew that he wanted to start his own brand though. So, in 2007, he decided to start KRANE. This was not the first time Joe decided to start a collection. He had tried to in 2005, but never took the collection to its full potential.

Joe knew the Thai mark very well, in his opinion and he found much of the clothes on the market were all the same - Complicated design cuts and trying to hard. Joe decided to take a different direction. ?Krane? is more about practicality, wearable, neat and what you can wear in everyday life, yet still look very stylish.

So, far the industry has embraced his uniques sense of design because of the diversity he brings in the clothes and style. His inspiration came from everything, everywhere, people, celebrities and to clothes he would like to wear. ?Krane? is for people that imaginative and everyday clothes that they can?t find anywhere else.

  • What does it take to be a top Designer?

Joe: Its not just about being a fashion designer, people are interested to see what you have to offer the fashion industry and will judge the designers work by that?. Thailand has many very good and talented designers, but to build your brand and to outshine the others, the designer needs to be very clear and focus on his/hers designs for people to see and then
get them to buy it.

  • What about the ?Krane? fashion show that took place at MET BAR?

I went to the fashion show! The Met Bar is best described as a posh, but concept-wise quite ordinary hotel club (Metropolitan Hotel), which is popular among models and the noveau rich. It?s difficult to get inside and if you are
not wealthy or a VIP, you need a membership card.

Joe decided to have his fashion show there because Met bar organizes an event called ?fashion Series?. Every month Met bar hosts an event, with one very selected designer to show case his/her clothing line. The manager of Met Bar K Num introduced and approached Joe for the second series and wanted him to be part in the event.

The preparation for the Fashion show was straight forward. The choice of models was very good in my opinion. There was a good set of male models walking down the catwalk. They all where mixed, different heights, good looks and very versatile. Excellent choice of models for the right set of clothes.

Before the show, Joe had been introduced by a friend to a popular bag designer from Denmark, Rene. Joe showcased this designer bags with ?Krane?. The bags are handmade and being produced in Bangkok. Joe tells me, that there might be a potential collaboration between the two. More news to come later?

The fashion show at Met Bar was coordinated with Joe?s good friend and top Fashion Stylist, Konti from Thailand. He was glad because to have him there because it helped having another opinion.

Joe received a great response from friends and important members of the fashion industry. He has already gotten a couple of requests for his pieces.

  • Will Joe launch a women?s line any time soon?

At this time, Joe is only focusing on menswear, but he definitely planning to do a womenswear line in the very near future.

  • What type of People wear ?Krane??

People who wear ?Krane? appreciate small details in clothing and thinks about the way they carry themselves. Age doesn?t matter as long as he knows how to dress well mix and match his style.

  • Is ?Krane? Affordable?

Joe believes that the tailoring is affordable and wants clients to be able to wear he brand often. People should be able to change their wardrobe once in a while without costing a leg and a foot.

  • What does the future hold?

Joe wants to launch his first Flagship store in Bangkok where he will carry a full range of merchandise and a womenswear line.

Joe has also teamed up with four leading other top designers in Bangkok from different backgrounds in industry to launch another line. Together, they are currently collaborating with a major company in Thailand to launch this new menswear early next year.

Unfortunately, I can?t tell you all the name of the company! It?s still a secret, awaiting to be revealed!

  • Where does Joe see ?Krane? 3 years from now?

He would like to get in touch with International buyers to expand his brand and sell all over Asia (Hong-Kong, Japan, Singapore, Australia and the Philippines) His dream is to have a flagship store for Male and female clothing in the future.

Joe finished the interview by saying? ?I dont know if I will live in Thailand for ever, Life changes? We ?never?? *SMILE*.? Joe credits his Family, his partner, dear friends, and his team who have helped him make the dream and vision possible.

I would like to thank him for letting me interview him for the hottest gossip website on the net and the unique UNIVERSAL PLAYER (me)!
