From Barnabus To Edward Cullen – Why Do We Love Our Vampires?

Vampires, Vampires, Vampires. What is it? Why are we so fascinated? From the piercing eyes of Barnabus Collins to the devilish charm of Spike, what makes us keep coming back for more?   Who did not want to date Angel or go home with Edward Cullen?

It is not simply the blood sucking it is the sexual mystique.  When Bill consumes Sookie it is with a passion so strong – women swoon and wish they were in her place.

The reasons vampires are so popular is the power, the vampire is dark he is a creature of the night he is intimate. He can bend your will to his, he can consume you –  you love the vampire you feel a great deal of lust for him and at the same time you fear him. He calls you from afar, he flies in the night and he comes and he sucks your blood it is a very orgasmic – you truly give yourself to the vampire.   Below are the changing faces of vampires over the years.  What do you think the mystique is?

(right) Barnabus Collins played by by Canadian actor Jonathan Frid, Barnabas Collins is a 175-year-old vampire who is in search of fresh blood and his lost love.  Barnabus was on Dark Shadows, which aired from 1966 to 1971.  The show was very popular and still has many fans.   Currently Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are collaborating yet again to bring this series back to life. If they do Johnny Depp who is a big fan of "Barnabus" will play the lead role of Barnabas.

(left) Count Dracula was played by Béla Lugosi.  Béla was a Hungarian actor of stage and screen.  Through his association with Dracula (in which he appeared with minimal makeup, using his natural, heavily accented voice), Lugosi found himself typecast as a horror villain in such movies as Murders in the Rue Morgue, The Raven, and Son of Frankenstein for Universal, and the independent White Zombie.

(right) Spike (a.k.a. William "the Bloody"), played by James Marsters, is a fictional character created by Joss Whedon and David Greenwalt for the cult television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Spike is a vampire and played various roles on the shows, ranging from villain to comic-relief to anti-hero.

(left) Angel played by David Boreanaz in Angel.  The show details the ongoing trials of Angel, a vampire whose human soul was restored to him by gypsies as a punishment for the murder of one of their own. After more than a century of murder and the torture of innocents, Angel’s restored soul torments him with guilt and remorse.

(right) Vampire Bill Compton played by Stephen Moyer in True Blood.  True Blood details the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, a fictional small Louisiana town. The series centers on Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a bar, who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton.

(left) Edward Cullen played by actor Robert Pattinson in the Twilight Films.   Edward is a vampire who, over the course of the Twilight series, falls in love with, marries, and has a child with Bella Swan, a human teenager who later chooses to become a vampire also.
