Simon Monjack is relieved the enquiry into the actress’ death showed she had no history of drug abuse and now hopes the star – who died in December aged just 32 – will be remembered for her work, rather than her untimely death.
He said: "Although Brittany’s autopsy report was incredibly shocking and sad to the family – her mother Sharon Murphy and I both shed tears – we are vindicated in that we always said Brittany never did any kind of illegal substances and that the medication she was taking was the medication found in her system. We hope now that people will understand the legacy of Brittany Murphy and the incredible body of work of Brittany Murphy.
"I am so sad that we are living in a culture of rumour and I just wish that people would understand that sometimes out of every tragedy can come some good.”
The 39-year-old producer has now called for an end to the speculation surrounding the ‘Clueless’ star’s death so the family can grieve in piece.
He added in a statement to Radar Online: “I know Brittany would want to feel the vindication. She never took a drug or a drink and that’s been shown. I love her family; the rumours can stop as we grieve our dead loved one and we can get on to grieve… I think it’s time for everybody to realise that Brittany was just an incredibly happy, precious angel that lives on through her fans and in our hearts."
The final autopsy report – which was published yesterday (25.02.10) – confirmed that Brittany died of a combination of complications from pneumonia and anaemia, as well as multiple drug intoxication. The only substances the coroner found were prescription medication and over-the-counter cold remedies.
