The European Union Government wants to know how, during a time of budget and financial austerity, that its development funds were used to pay for an Elton John concert in Italy.
EU spokesman Tom van Lierop said Friday the EU Commission wants “to know as quickly as possible” why local authorities used money typically earmarked to boost the economies of poorer EU countries for the British pop star’s concert. The offending performance by John was performed before thousands of people in September 2009 in the heart of Naples at the Piedigrotta festival, which is financed by local authorities.
Imagine how upset the Commission must be. With real poverty to deal with and limiting funding to help how disgusting to waste money on entertainment! One thing we can be sure is that the local authorities in Naples who planned this are not amongst the needy.
