Madonna returned to the African country where she has undertaken a number of aid projects today (05.04.10) to see the progress of relief work and to lay the first brick of her $15 million Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, a school, which is due to be opened in 2011. Madonna is accompanied on the trip by her biological children, Lourdes, 13 and Rocco, nine, as well as her adopted children, David Banda and Mercy, both four, who are both from the African nation.
The trip is the first time Mercy has been back to her homeland since she was adopted last year and Madonna is planning to introduce both of her adopted children to their birth families at a special lunch during the trip.
A source said: “She sees it as vital they understand their roots. Mercy’s meeting with her family will be particularly emotional as it’s the first time she’s see them since last summer. “They will proudly show off their dance moves and meet their families.” Today Madonna is scheduled to visit a poverty alleviation project in a village in the country’s Mchinji district, where she adopted David, and tomorrow (06.04.10) she will visit the academy.
