Nominations for the 54th Grammy Awards will be revealed tonight – and everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting to see who will be eligible for the top awards in music today!
The award ceremony takes place on February 12, 2012. Of course the Grammys primarily focus on the big names that have huge commercial and critical success.
With that in mind it would be no surprise to see British sensation Adele leading the way; the 23 year-old may have had her year curtailed somewhat after being forced to undergo an operation on her throat, but the success of her second album ’21’ spoke volumes, going four times platinum in the US upon topping the Billboard chart and spawning the single ‘Rolling In The Deep’ which went platinum five times on its way to the top of the charts.
Other strong contenders for some of the big awards – which include ‘Album Of The Year’, ‘Record Of The Year’, ‘Song Of The Year’ and ‘Best New Artist’ – include Lady Gaga, whose third album ‘Born This Way’ has gone on to sell some 8 million copies worldwide as the star wrapped up her gigantic two year ‘Monster’s Ball’ tour this May.
Others with strong chances might be Katy Perry for her hit ‘Firework’ while Rihanna, Usher and Taylor Swift are also in the running. One award already confirmed is ‘The Message’ by Grandmaster Flash’s induction into the Grammy Award Hall of Fame.
