Twilight Saga actor Robert Pattinson, 24, has been trying to shake the vampire image after playing Edward Cullen in all the Twilight movies and wants to put the part behind him once the last movie ends. He has been looking for more serious adult roles, he also wants to showcase his musical talent. Robert is very interested in playing the late folk hero Jeff Buckley. Buckley drowned in 1997 in Memphis, Tennessee, aged 30 and immediately became a cult figure.
Express UK reports: “Rob is obsessed with this project and is doing everything he can to land the part. He has already told his business team this is his passion and they agree it could be the film that makes him a legitimate Oscar contender. The film’s producer Michelle Sy said: “I’ve met actors who are keen on the part and Robert was one.”
Robert will have competition for the part many other actors are being considered for the role including: James Franco; James Marsden; Ryan Gosling and Johnny Depp. The singer’s mother has said the person who gets the role must be able to sing and play music but everyone will be given a fair chance. Pattinson is said to have penned some of the songs for The Twilight Saga – perhaps this will give him an edge over the other actors.
