And this is . . . SO TRUE. The Chinese Government is considering banning popular songs by Katy Perry and Lady Gaga — among others — if their record labels do not submit the songs for official approval. *sigh* Unless those demands are met, sites offering the songs for downloads have until the 15th of September to remove them for good . . . and forever will they stay on the infamous Blacklist.
Now, having lived in China for nearly 4 months, I’ll tell you this: My Chinese friends aren’t going to be totally thrilled with this decision. You know why? Because they LOVE themselves some Mother Monster. Trust me, you haven’t seen a true Lil’ Monster until you’ve taken a stroll down a Chengdu sidewalk, where you’ll undoubtedly run across a group of middle school hipsters attempting to sing Bad Romance (in English). They love Gaga so much, instead of saying “Oh my Lord” they say “Oh my Gaga.” Can you imagine how sad it’ll be if some of their fave Gaga songs get nixed?
Among other artists whose songs may get banned are: The Backstreet Boys, Simple Plan, Owl City, and Nicki Minaj. I’m sure there are others, and will continue to be others in the near future. What do you all think about this celeb-censoring? If you’re reading our lovely blog, I take it you value news, and the happenings of pop culture. On a serious note, how would you feel — as American readers — if your news sources and main news media outlets were extensively filtered?
Just a slightly different post for you to ponder on this Friday night or early Saturday morning. Leave your thoughts below; I’m sure everyone would be interested in hearing your opinions on the matter. (I KNOW you all have opinions, so give ’em to us!).
