Elvis Presley's Record The Latest Victim Of Glee's Success

The cast members of the hit Fox series GLEE have just made music history – again.   The New Directions have already displaced The Beatles and Michael Jackson and now have just passed Elvis Presley and own the all-time record for having the most songs ever on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The Glee crew’s cover tunes have accounted for 113 entries on the Hot 100 since the show began releasing singles a year and a half ago.  With the six tracks that debuted this week, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and company can now say they’ve surpassed Elvis’s record of 108 in terms of the total number of songs to make the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Of course fewer that 25% of Glee’s hits last more than a week on the chart, still for a lightweight group with no original music they are sure doing well.
Needless to say the record has little bearing on the stature of those displaced by the production of a TV show.  Not a single cast member, nor even the entire show compares in anyone’s mind with The Beatles, Michael Jackson, or Elvis.
