Has America Found Its Susan Boyle?

Cindy Chang, a housewife who made her intense operatic debut last night on America’s Got Talent, just might be the American version of Susan Boyle. Ms. Chang wowed the socks off the judges and had the entire audience up on their toes yelling “Vegas! Vegas! Vegas!” So why was this performance so special you might ask? How was it different from any other ol’ singing performance?

It might just be because her parents told her that she wasn’t good enough to be a singer and then, at the age of 42, decided to secretly audition on the Got Talent stage. It might also be because we, as viewers, enjoy watching people succeed after a lifetime of them being told they’d never amount to anything. What were her craaaazy parents thinking? She’s super-de-duper awesomeness!

Chang, who sipped on olive oil before the performance, said to the judges, “I used to be really, really shy . . . I always wanted to be a singer, but my parents said no.”

“If your parents watched this, you know what they’ll be saying? Big mistake,” said Piers Morgan after she finished singing.

There were tears, standing ovations, and a crazy amount of clapping before Chang hopped off the stage in excitement. Watch the performance and tell us what you think . . . Next Susan Boyle?
