Usually we are pretty cynical when it comes to Kim Kardashian – but not in this case. The pain she feels surrounding the loss of her father is, no doubt, as real as it gets. Her loss is something that most people above a certain age can relate to and recognize as genuine.
Kim regrets that her late father, the lawyer Robert Kardashian, never got to meet her NBA star husband, Kris Humphries. Kim finds it “really hard” to think her dad, who passed away in 2003 ate the age of 59, will never be able to spend time with her husband or any children that they will have.
She told People.com: “That’s really hard … that he’ll never get to meet my husband or my children.”
Kim says that seeing her two-year-old nephew is particularly poignant because Mason reminds her so much of her dad. Mason is the son of her sister Kourtney Kardashian and the little tot’s facial expressions are remarkably similar to those of her dad.
Kim said: “When I look at Mason he’s so much like my dad. He gives these facial expressions sometimes that look just like my dad. My dad would have loved him.”
Kim also shared that her father was private about his terrible illness – esophageal cancer – which killed him just 8 weeks after diagnosis. Kim said she counts a speech she made at his funeral as “probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in life.”
She said: “I wish we knew a little more about the disease. My dad didn’t really want to tell anyone he was sick. He wouldn’t even tell his parents he was sick. He didn’t tell them until like a week before he passed away.”
