The September 26th issue of People Magazine features “Toddlers & Tiaras Controversy: Are They Growing Up Too Fast?” Last week The Parents Television Council was upset at TLC for their show Toddlers And Tiaras — after it showed a three-year-old girl wearing the Vivian Ward hooker costume from the Julia Roberts movie, Pretty Woman. This week People Magazine is questioning whether the television show that has been on TLC for nearly three years has gone too far the with the skimpy costumes and temper tantrums. My vote is YES!
The parents of the children are defending themselves and People has more: Now devoted pageant moms are speaking out in their own defense. Wendy Dickey, who dressed her daughter Paisley, 3, as Julia Roberts, tells PEOPLE the look was “tasteful and funny.” Still, “If I knew there would be a reaction like this, I never would have used it,” Dickey says. “Next time, she’ll be dressed as an angel.” And Juana Myers, whose daughter MaKenzie has been featured on Tiaras, says unfair scrutiny has been placed on the pageant industry. “If this were a sport, no one would question it,” she says. “This is her sport.”
These parents are out of touch with reality who bleaches their children’s teeth, plucks their eyebrows, dressing them like hookers etc etc. Shame on these parents dressing these children up not only as adults but as hookers. Children already grow up fast! What do you think would you want your daughter or son to participate in a pageant like this?
