Recently record number of people on the internet have been watching videos online, especially during the month of October. Reston, VA-based comScore has released a study on this where they state that 184 million people who use the internet in the United States each spent about 21.1 hours of watching videos online.
All together they’ve viewed around 42.6 billion videos. Google’s YouTube account is in first place with over half of that number, Facebook in second with around 59 million people watching 346 million videos. In third is VEVO a site that’s meant for watching music videos on, they only got 57 million.
Videos being watched on the internet get more and more popular by the day, I for one don’t ever watch T.V. anymore. If I want to watch an episode of a show that looks interesting I search it up on the internet and watch. In the television industry, networks are always fighting for ratings, while on the internet there’s no need, the numbers just keep increasing.
People who actually make the videos for others to enjoy on the internet are now making good money. For example, becoming a YouTube partner can get you paid, by the ads and the number of viewers on your videos. Becoming a YouTube partner is now considered a profession, since you’re able to make a living off of it.
In the end, what does this mean? It means that the internet is seriously killing television, more people I talk to don’t watch T.V., they are more entertained with what’s on the internet.
You’ve had a long run television, but I think your time has come!
