Zsa Zsa Gabor, who will be 94 on February 6, has had her leg amputated today to save her life at the UCLA Medical Center.
Sadly the infection troubling Zsa Zsa could not be addressed by antibiotics due to her poor circulation in the leg. Doctors had to amputate 3/4 of the leg – from above her knee – in order to eliminate any chance of systemic sepsis or SIRS which would be life threatening.
Zsa Zsa’s husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, gave the okay to perform the procedure to combat the life threatening infection. Amputation is the last choice of course in these situations of infected limbs or digits – only when all other treatments fail is this severe remedy called for.
Apparently the operation was a success and doctors encountered no unexpected complications. Of course it is too soon to say when Zsa Zsa could be released.
