We’re down to five on American Idol and tonight someone gets the boot. Last night it was a battle of classic 60’s songs in the first performance and a British invasion in the second. If you missed any of last night’s performances you can see them all HERE!
Hollie Cavanagh earned raves for the first time ever last night with her rendition of “River Deep, Mountain High”, even garnering a standing O from Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson. She gets a bit better each week but it’s kind of a miracle she’s still here at this point in the competition.
Phillip Phillips is a favorite week after week. He is creative and puts his own spin on things, but this week may be his undoing. Even the judges were lukewarm when he completed “The Letter”. If this week’s shaky performances don’t put him in danger of going home, then consider him a lock for a spot in the finale.
Skylar Laine’s “Fortunate Son” was well received by the judges. They thought she was as fearless as ever and looked like she was in her element with this song. As Steven Tyler put it, music loves her as much as she loves music. Her version of “You Don’t Have To Say you Love Me” proved that she does seem to be peaking at just the right time.
Jessica Sanchez makes it kind of easy to forget she’s only sixteen, especially when she performs a number like her rendition of “Proud Mary’. Most of the judges felt she did Ike and Tina Turner proud last night. Her “You Are So Beautiful” was another hit. Only Randy wasn’t sold. He felt Jessica tried to slay the biggest dragon of the night and failed.
Joshua Ledet oozes that good ole Motown vibe and his version of “To Love Somebody’ got yet another standing ovation. The judges love that he is so talented and kind of a throwback to another era of music.
