In an effort to promote this season’s American Idol Aerosmith stars Steven Tyler and Joe Perry will team up with bassist and American Idol judge Randy Jackson for a special performance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno this Friday, January 20.

Perry announced the news after a fan sent him an inquiry on Twitter.  Rumors had been circulating that a possible appearance of the American Idol judges with Perry when fan Bruno Tortola asked:

“Are you really going to play with IamStevenT (Tyler) and Randy Jackson on The Tonight Show Jan 20?”  Perry replied directly: “You Bet”.

The Aerosmith guitarist, who formerly at odds with Tyler, appears in Jay Leno’s studio twice this month – he’ll appear again on Monday January 30, 2012 to help promote the Amnesty International musical project, ‘Chimes Of Freedom: The Songs Of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International.’

Perry has recorded a rendition of Dylan’s ‘Man of Peace’ for the record, which also includes Adele’s version of ‘Make You Feel My Love’, Queens Of The Stone Age tackling ‘Outlaw Blues’ and Patti Smith contributing a cover of ‘Drifter’s Escape.’

Tyler and Perry continue to work on Aerosmith’s forthcoming new album in Los Angeles. As yet untitled, the record is expected to hit shelves in Spring 2012 – just as interest in American Idol peaks, of course. Naturally there is a tour planned to follow soon after the albums release.

If you want to see what Tyler really looks like under all the makeup and costuming, check out our post – warning it is nothing nice!
