Tonight was an awesome episode of American Idol, did you see the show? If you missed any of it or just want to see it again, you can read the full recap HERE.
In “Round 1” the judges had their chance to choose the songs for the contestants and Phillip Phillips was the only one to get a standing ovation. Randy thought Jessica Sanchez had a “slight” edge, but Jennifer called it and said that Phillip was the clear winner. Not enough time for Steven to decide, he was left without a decision, either way. Personally I found that Phiilip nailed it and Joshua Ledet did an amazing job, but Jessica is just way overrated, this song was too big and too old for her.
It was on to the home town visits and Joshua’s was endearing, Jessica’s seemed rehearsed and Phillip, well he was truly humbled and overwhelmed by all the attention.
Next on the agenda, the Idol contestants choose their own songs. The judges loved Joshua’s performance, but they didn’t like Phillips and they loved Jessica’s rendition of “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith. Now first, I have to say what an obvious “suck up” to sing one of the judges own songs at this stage in the competition. Second, I don’t think she nailed it, I think she massacred it and I can’t wait to see if Jimmy Lovine has an opinion because at least he is honest. In the third round, Jimmy got to choose what songs he wanted the contestants to sing. The judges loved Joshua and Phillips’ performances, but when it came to Jessica’s performance, Randy says it all, “I liked it ok, I didn’t love it, once again we are at the end here, there was never a moment moment, it was ok but it wasn’t like oh my God.” Jimmy choose this song because he thought that this one would at least be “age appropriate” considering that many of her songs are too old for her. It wasn’t the best performance and America will have their say when the votes are in. Jessica and her gazillion fans think she has it already, you know, the Idol title, the whole shebang. But, I think some people may be in for a big surprise tomorrow night, my guess is that we will be having an all male finale.
