Carrie Underwood Says Ex Chase Crawford Only Dated Her For Publicity

Carrie Underwood says ex-boyfriend, Chase Crawford, only dated her as a publicity stunt.

In Touch print edition, May 28, 2012, reports the country star revealed her not so surprising allegation to UK’s NOW magazine. “In my heart, I knew it wasn’t right. You never really know why someone is with you. I feel like it was more of a publicity stunt.”

Carrie and the Gossip Girl actor dated in 2008 and broke up in a very modern fashion – via text message. Carrie didn’t seem too broken up at the time, or she just might have been nursing a broken heart with a cavalier attitude. She told Extra, “It was completely mutual. We broke up over text so … it’s like ‘peace out.’ It’s difficult while you’re dating because people always make a lot bigger deal of things than they actually are. Then when you break up with somebody and then like two months later it comes out and it’s like you’re rehashing old stuff. I don’t know what that’s all out now.”

Carrie is currently happily married to hockey player, Mike Fisher, and Chase is rumored to be linked to ESPN reporter, Erin Andrews. And to play Hollywood musical chairs, Chase’s sister, Candice, just had a baby with husband, Tony Romo, who dated Carrie in 2007. I don’t think the family connection had anything to do with Carrie slamming Chase, I just think she comes across sounding b*tchy in interviews, or maybe she’s just a b*tch.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a publicity stunt. Carrie and Chase were young in their careers at the time and their publicists were probably looking for a way to get them in the news. Publicity hook-ups happen a lot more than we think. Do you have any that come to mind? I think the obvious fauxmances are Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler (or anyone she has a movie coming out with), Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal, all couples resulting from Dancing with the Stars, and Taylor Lautner and ANYONE. Did I break any illusions? Sorry.
