CDL Exclusive Interview With One Of Europe’s Biggest Pop Stars, Dominika Stara

Recently, CDL had the privilege to chat with up-and-coming pop sensation, Dominika Stará. Dominika might be a relatively new name to most in North America, but in her home country of Slovakia and the greater parts of Europe she is, to say the least, a household name. She got her start on Cesko Slovenská Superstar, a singing competition similar to American Idol, where she found incredible success. While she didn’t win the competition, she got third place and ended up capturing the hearts of countless watchers/listeners all over the world.

When asked what it was like to compete on such a high-caliber show, one where talent of all types abounds, Dominika said that it was a challenge, but ultimately she knew — as soon as she walked onto that stage — that performing was what she wants to do for the rest of her life.

“It was a big challenge for me,” she says while talking about her experiences with the show. “Kind of like my dream. When I saw my first season I was like woooooow. When I saw the show I told my mom, ‘I’m gonna be on that stage someday.’ I knew it was something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life.”

And so a dream comes true!

Dominika is working hard to establish her career in North America, and has many big things planned in the near future, including landing an american recording contract, as well as undergoing a collaboration with hip-hop artist, Cassidy. She’s currently working (or will be) on a single with the singer. When we asked her to elaborate on the secret project all she told us was that “it’s going to be a hip-hop single and you will like it! It will be awesome!” We’re definitely excited and can’t wait to see the final product.

Among other things to promote herself as an artist, she’ll be hosting a showcase at SIR Stage 37, a prominent NYC venue that has harbored all sorts of artistic talents in the past. All this jazz goes down on March 21st.

“I’m really looking forward to [the showcase]. Really excited about it! Super excited about it!” she says. “I will be doing a cover of Bruno Mars’s ‘Just the Way you are.'”

When asked about her romantic life, after reading on her website that she chooses “not to hunt guys, but songs,” the singer said she has a very special man in her life. “You know, my boyfriend is the microphone–he’s my love. I just fell in love with him the moment we met.” What a lovely sense of humor, am I right? I laughed at her joke and her light-hearted wittiness and, with a chuckle, she replied, “I’m serious. No boys.”

She said she has many other things to worry about besides boys, such as further developing her English (which actually is quite good — A+). “I’m working on my English,” she told us. “People tell me to watch TV.” And after doing a spot on impression of Bugs Bunny’s arche-nemesis, Elmer Fudd, she said she loves american cartoons. Her impression was, let me be honest here, quite impressive :)

We’d like to thank Ms. Dominika Stará for taking the time to speak with us.
