CDL Review: Chili’s New Pick-a-Pepper Menu Offers Spicy, Mouthwatering Creations

CDL was given the opportunity to check out Chili’s new Pick-a-Pepper menu, which offers guests an incredible selection of new items, each of which convey the versatility and wide range of flavors chilies have to offer.

My husband and I were offered the opportunity to sneak into our local Chili’s restaurant and give you an honest review of our dining experience. I have to admit, I love Mexican food so it was certainly not my first visit to the Wilkes Barre, PA eatery, nor will it be my last. We seated at around 5:30pm, generally the height of dinner service, and I did that purposely to see how well our server could handle not just us but the chaos around us. “Brian” was the sweetheart, probably a college student, who catered to us. Before we were settled into our seats he was fetching us “bottomless beverages” and set the tone of our quick dinner.

I say quick because we only waited for 13 minutes after ordering for our entire meal to be served. Not bad for a packed dinnertime rush!  I ordered the Smoky Chipole Chicken Fajitas (pictured above), which Chili’s describes as Sizzling grilled chicken, sautéed onions and bell peppers kicked-up with chipotle pestos sauce and melted Monterey Jack cheese. Topped with crispy onion strings. The fajitas are currently one of their new Pick-a-Pepper items, which include many other fantastic dishes:

•Smoky Chipotle Chicken Fajitas — Sizzling grilled chicken, sautéed onions and bell peppers kicked-up with chipotle pesto sauce and melted Monterey Jack cheese. Topped with crispy onion strings.

•Santa Cruz Steak — 100% USDA Choice 6 oz. sirloin topped with seasoned butter and a side of tangy verde sauce. Served over fire-roasted corn salsa with jalapeño-cheddar mashed potatoes.

•Roasted Red Pepper Grilled Chicken — Grilled chicken breast served over a zesty roasted red pepper cream sauce. Topped with melted pepper Jack cheese and served with rice and steamed broccoli.

•Chipotle Salmon — Seared Cajun-spiced salmon with a smoky chipotle-garlic pesto cream sauce. Served with rice and steamed broccoli.

What they don’t tell you is that the serving size is massive. I ended up boxing up half of it and taking it home for lunch the next day!  The chicken was delish and fell apart with my fork and the sauce really made the dish.

My husband created his own custom combo dinner.  He had a Half Rack of Baby Back Ribs and a 6 oz Classic Sirloin Steak.  I can’t personally vouch for the flavor, but I can tell you that I would have known if he didn’t enjoy it.  He loved the ribs and devoured the loaded mashed potatoes and veggies as well as the steak.

Yes, even after all of that, we did save room for dessert.  We both jumped on the Oreo Topped Molten Cake which is just ridiculous. It’s a crème filled cake, topped with vanilla ice cream, Oreo cookie shavings, and a bit of chocolate sauce drizzled on top.  It was definitely worth the extra treadmill time to work it off!

Our trip to Chili’s was a great one. The food was quick and cooked to perfection. Brian kept checking on us to make sure that we had everything we needed just as a great server should. At one point a manager was checking on customers to see that they were enjoying their meals as well. The dining room was clean and we were out the door in just over an hour. Definitely be sure to hop on over to your nearest Chili’s and treat that stomach of yours to one of Chili’s delish new Pick-a-Pepper items!
