While millions of people across the globe flocked to the theaters to watch “SEE ‘CHIMPANZEE,’SAVING CHIMPANZEES”, featuring Oscar, the cute loveable chimp; they were also helping Disneynature make a profound impact on the Jane Goodall Institute’s Conservation Program.

For every moviegoer who saw Oscar the chimpanzee on the big screen during the film’s record-setting run, (April 20-May 3, 2012), Disneynature made a donation to JGI through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, which will profoundly impact JGI’s efforts to conserve chimpanzee habitat, grow educational programs for schools and provide care for orphaned chimpanzees.

The conservation program helps to protect over 129,236 thousand acres or (202 square miles) of wild chimpanzee habitat throughout the Tchimpounga Nature Reserve from infrastructure investments and development.  This kind of development costs chimpanzees their homes each and every day.

The program also educates the importance of protecting chimpanzees, which reaches an estimated 60,000 children in 100 schools throughout the Congo as well as providing food and medicine for the orphaned chimpanzees at the JGI’s Tchimpounga chimpanzee sanctuary.
