George Clooney is cleaning up this awards season. He added a Golden Globe to his haul for The Descendants on the weekend. Now he’s been nominated for a BAFTA – the British equivalent of an Academy Award. We could see a repeat of the Globes with the females aswell because Meryl Streep is once again nominated for her amazing portrayal of a former British Prime Minister in The Iron Lady.
The Artist leads the pack with 12 nominations including best film and best director. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy – a cold war drama starring Gary Oldman – has nabbed 11 nominations. Martin Scorsese‘s Hugo has nine. He has also been recognised for the documentary George Harrison: Living in the Material World.
The nominations were released overnight and are seen as a good indicator ahead of the Oscars.
