If I can recall any stage production in which I absolutely adored as a child it would, without a doubt, be Les Miserables. Even as a young girl, the music and the storyline of it moved me to a point where I can recall it as though it were yesterday — saying to myself, “I would love to do what these people do.” The emotions the production has the power to evoke is quite magical.
Well, let me tell you, the movie looks no different — the heartstrings certainly get pulled. The film stars Anne Hathaway – who, triple threat she is, captures her character Fantine impeccably. The trailer opens with her beautiful singing and continues throughout the whole clip. Her voice is mesmerizing, detailing the harshness and sadness of her life on the cruel French streets where her dreams have been shattered.
Epic doesn’t describe how this movie looks. Anne shares the screen with Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter, Eddie Redmayne and Sacha Baron Cohen.
Tom Hooper directs the film, and the trailer certainly promises that he has a blockbuster in his hands. Sometimes, nailing a musical drama is a tough feat, but this outstanding trailer suggests that Hooper knows exactly what he’s doing. Right down to the cast, the scenery, the music — it all entwines perfectly in the short sequences we see in the trailer. Just imagine the movie in its entirety!
Alas, we will have to wait until Christmas when Les Mis hits theaters. I for one am super excited — and it must be said, I’m looking forward to seeing Anne chop all her long locks off as Fantine! Check out the trailer and let us know what you think!
