The Monkee’s Davy Jones Will Be Cremated (Photo)

The cover of the current issue of People Magazine is devoted to Davy Jones’ funeral plans.  It was sad to learn that a pop icon of 1960’s passed away from a heart attack this week.  Fans always loved the cute eager innocence of Davy and all of hijinks that he got up to with The Monkees.  Many people are unaware that The Monkees were one of the first ‘boybands’ put together specifically for eponymous TV show – ‘The Monkees.’

Assembled in Los Angeles in 1966 by Robert “Bob” Rafelson and Bert Schneider for the TV show which aired from 1966 to 1968, the musical acting quartet was composed of Americans Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork, and Englishman Davy Jones.   The Monkees eventually gained control of their band and their commercial destiny.

People writes:  Monkees lead singer Davy Jones, who died Feb 29 of a heart attack, will be cremated.  The musician’s rep, who confirmed the cremation, says memorial plans are still up in the air for Jones, 66, who passed away in Indiantown, Fla., where he resided.

The rep tells PEOPLE, “Ceremonies are still being determined by the combined family – Jessica Pacheco and her family, David’s daughters in California and daughter, sisters and extended family in England.”

TMZ has the exclusive:  Davy Jones body will be cremated … family sources tell TMZ.  We’re told there will be a memorial service for the singer in Florida, though the date is TBA.

TMZ broke the story … Davy died last week from an apparent heart attack, which the singer suffered at a ranch near his Florida home, where he was visiting his horses.

Davy has not been cremated yet, and the family is still discussing what to do with his ashes. Funeral plans for the singer are also still up in the air.
