Tonight on the CW my favorite show THE VAMPIRE DIARIES airs with a whole new episode called “O Come, All Ye Faithful.” Tonight is the last show and they we are heading into the mid-season finale. On tonight’s show as a Winter Wonderland-themed party fills the streets of Mystic Falls, Stefan and Caroline find themselves at odds with Tyler over his plans for Klaus and his hybrids. Did you see last week’s premiere episode? We did and we recapped it here for you.
On last week’s show we spent a lot of time between current time and flashbacks to 1942. Damon and Stefan determined that Elena was sired to him and Damon told Stefan that this was not the first time. It seems that in New Orleans in 1942 Damon was sired to a women called Charlotte. Damon knew a witch at the time that may be able to break Elena’s sire bond. When the boys find the witch’s granddaughter they find out to break the bond they need to sacrifice 12 innocents. However, they soon find out that this was a lie and the only way to break the sire is for Damon to cast Elena aside and leave her.
On tonight’s show a WINTER WONDERLAND IN MYSTIC FALLS – As a Winter Wonderland-themed party fills the streets of Mystic Falls, Stefan and Caroline find themselves at odds with Tyler over his plans for Klaus and his hybrids. When Caroline proposes a solution to their problem, Hayley (guest star Phoebe Tonkin) finds a dramatic way to make it clear that she is not on board. Later, Klaus makes a discovery that leads to chaos and violence. Meanwhile, Elena and Damon retreat to the Gilbert Lake House to help Jeremy conquer some dangerous inner demons with the help of Bonnie and Professor Shane (guest star David Alpay), who reveals a piece of ancient history that leaves them all speechless.
The Vampire Diaries Season 4 episode 9 ‘O Come, All Ye Faithful’ airs at 8PM tonight on the CW and we will be live blogging it will all the up-to-the-minutes. So come back to this spot and spend the evening with us enjoying the show! Make sure to refresh often to get the most current update!
Tonight’s recap: Ha! Damon couldn’t do it! I knew it. He couldn’t send Elena away. After she begged him to, I knew he couldn’t send her away. He’s been waiting so long for her… They wake up together – clothes on. He was being a gentleman. Aww. He tells her knows he should send her away, but neither is ready to let go.
They know they need to tell Stefan they slept together, but
Klaus finishes a painting as Stefan mocks his artwork. Klaus sends off a painting to the grill with one of the minions he thinks is still sired to him. Stefan tells Klaus that Elena is sired to Damon – which he already knew.
Klaus insists he’s found the sword they need and even shows it to him, but they need Jeremy to have the full tattoo to decipher the cure. Problem is, Jeremy wants to kill them all and they need him to keep killing vamps to let the tattoo grow. Irony, anyone?
Adrian’s ready to be free of Klaus and Hayley tells them she’s found the witch to work the spell. Problem is, there are several agendas going and no one but Hayley and Atticus know about there’s. The freed hybrids are about to be dead meat if Atticus gets his way. And that will give Atticus lots of power, I’m guessing.
Tyler’s ready to volunteer for a swap spell that Bonnie’s supposed to perform that will leave Klaus trapped in Tyler’s body encased in concrete long enough for all the hybrids to get away. Caroline blabs the plan to Stefan who’s working the third agenda at play.
Jeremy tries again to kill his sister but she stops him. Atticus and Bonnie say they’re trying to help him not kill Elena, but of course, that’s not the deal.
Caroline and her new faux buddy Klaus are bonding at the Mystic Grill. She likes his painting (or says she does) and they share champagne. She texts Stefan that he’s in the clear to search Klaus’ place. The sword isn’t in the safe. Stefan and Damon strategize on where to look. Stefan finds some notes – looks like they may be witch spell notes.
Damon lets Stefan believe he told Elena to leave him alone.
Atticus tells Bonnie and Elena that it’s Jeremy’s subconscious that’s commanding him to kill any and every vampire. He says he’s going to reprogram Jeremy to decide if he wants to kill the vampire or go with the Hunter instinct. Atticus hypnotizes Jeremy and encourages Elena to talk to him about their time together, to remind him of their bond.
She talks about their parents and that they would want them to fight for each other. Atticus asks how Jeremy feels about Elena and he says she’s not his real sister, she’s the reason his life was ruined and he will kill her even if he does doing it. He snaps out of the trance and wants to know if it worked. It may have worked the way Atticus wanted – just not sure exactly what Atticus wants!
Tyler catches Stefan and Caroline plotting and confronts them. He reminds them that one of his pack was already killed by Klaus chasing the cure. Tyler says he’s making it happen no matter what. Stefan gets physical and Caroline warns him – he looks and sees Tyler’s pack of hybrids backing him up. Stefan has no choice but to back down.
Damon finds Elena sad by the lake. She’s upset that it didn’t work out with Jeremy. She said the last time she was at the lake, she was so in love with Stefan and now it’s a distant memory. She asks him if it’s the sire bond or just because she’s so happy with him. Damon says he’s got something else he can try.
Tyler tells Stefan he doesn’t care about the cure – a cured hybrid is worse off – back to being a werewolf and subject to the whims of the moon. He’s furious with Caroline for telling Stefan instead of backing him up.
Bonnie and Atticus want to try again. Damon says no. He tells him to find someone else to focus his feelings on. He picks Bonnie. Damon takes off. Atticus finds Elena at the lake and says that Damon’s idea to change Jeremy’s focus to Bonnie.
Elena asks him if he knows how to break the sire bond. He tells her that there’s no cure for true love. Atticus tells Damon he knows where the cure is and he doesn’t need Klaus’s sword – he says he’s already been to where the cure is and can take him.
Tyler finds his mom and has to break the news to her that he’s literally going underground for a year. He says the hybrids are counting on him and she tells him to do what he needs to do. She says he’s a real leader and his dad would be proud.
Atticus shows them a rock that belonged to Silas. He was a witch who wanted to be with a girl forever. There’s a sad love triangle story. Bottom line, he tells them if they dig up Silas, they’ve got the cure.
Stefan and Caroline are trapped with the hybrids when he gets a call. Damon tells him they don’t need the sword! Looks like Tyler’s free to take out Klaus!
Atticus tells them they only need the tattoo to get to the cure. Elena and Damon want to know what’s in it for him and he says he’s chasing the legend of Silas.
Caroline begs Tyler not to go get buried. She tells him that they can stick Klaus into Rebekah’s body and then bury her deep. Hayley texts Atticus that the plan is falling apart. Caroline calls Bonnie who confirms that the plan will work. Caroline’s not happy to hear that Elena is there with Damon – guessing she’ll tell Stefan that Damon didn’t set her free. Atticus texts Hayley to fix it and she breaks Caroline’s neck and leaves her in a heap and takes off.
Elena brings down Christmas ornaments from the attic of the lake house to take home. Damon tells Elena that he thinks Atticus helped blow up everyone at the Young farm. Atticus overhears and tries to explain his lengthy phone calls away. He tells them Pastor Young was a wacko, depressed and suicidal.
Bonnie and Jeremy come to tell them they think they’ve fixed Jeremy’s bling urge to kill vampires. He heads for her and Damon steps in front to protect her. Jeremy considers him and then flips the stake over and hands it to Damon. Damon lets him pass and Jeremy and Elena share a sweet hug.
Atticus slips out his phone and peeks to see that Hayley said she fixed it.
Stefan comes to see Klaus at the Winter Wonderland and tells him he checked the safe and the sword is gone. Klaus is indignant. Stefan also tells him he found his letters. Klaus says they’re his victims and compares them to Stefan writing his ripper victim’s names on the wall. Klaus tells him loneliness is the reason they memorialize their dead. He says that every time they kill, they’re left with nothing again. He says keeping reminders helps for a while, but then reminds them they’re infinitely and utterly alone.
April finds Caroline looking pretty dead in the bathroom and sets up screaming. She tells Caroline that she was dead and has no pulse. Caroline calls Tyler and tells him to check on Rebekah’s body because Hayley betrayed them. She compels her and walks out but then walks into Matt who tells her that she’s got Jeremy’s vervain bracelet and can’t be compelled.
The hybrids are in the woods thinking they’re waiting for Tyler and the witch. Klaus kills them all with the sword. He’s soaked in their blood. Only Kim remains, but when she can’t tell him where Tyler is, he takes her heart too.
Whoa. Totally lost. I thought Atticus was going to have Jeremy kill the 12 or use the 12 in a spell of some sort. I had no idea Klaus was going to get them.
Jeremy and Elena are happily looking at old Christmas ornaments. Damon sits outside alone listening in and Elena goes to him. He tells her that he can’t do it. She tells him that she knows how she feels and that it’s real for both of them. She tells him to stop fighting it. Damon tells her it’s good to see her normal with her brother – he says that’s what he wants for her.
He tells her that Christmas was his and Stefan’s favorite holiday as children. He tells her he’s done the wrong thing by being there with her and lying to Stefan. He looks her in the eye and tells her she’s going to go home. He says he’s setting her free – that’s what he wants. He says that will make him happy.
Tyler and April are both missing, Caroline tells Stefan. Stefan says he feels guilty thinking of Klaus led away to be trapped. Caroline says she feels bad too. Stefan says they’re no better than Klaus in the grand scheme and she agrees. She says trust is everything. She asks if he’s heard from Damon. He says he’s at the lake house with Jeremy. She asks where Elena is. Stefan asks if they’re together and he can read Caroline’s face. He asks how “together” they are. She looks down and Stefan has his answer. He’s crushed.
Jeremy thanks Bonnie and hugs her. Damon walks Elena to the car. Jeremy gives his sister a wave. She says she wants to fight him on it, but every part of her body wants to get in the car and leave. He tells her to do it. She kisses him. God, you just have to love Damon. He’s both the baddest and the best boy of all.
Meanwhile Stefan is tearing up the house while Caroline looks on sadly.
Tyler finds his slaughtered pack in the woods and Kim dead in the old crypt.
April’s hiding unseen in the crypt still in her tiara and sash. Why is she there? She uncovers Rebekah’s corpse in the coffin.
Carol’s looking for Tyler for a ride home – she had too much champagne. Klaus walks up – says he needs to see Tyler. Carol begs him not to hurt Tyler that he’s all she has. He says the same is true of her. He grabs her and plunges her head into the fountain until she’s dead. Wow. Klaus killed nearly everyone Tyler loves in one night. Will he let Caroline live? He’s figured out she was flirting with him to distract, so she may be disposable now as well. We’ll see…
THE END!
