The number one daytime drama, The Young and the Restless, is being eviscerated by new executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps. Jill takes no prisoners when she decides to do battle with a show –regardless of how fans feel about her often arbitrary decisions. Since beggining her destructive rampage Jill has axed Christel Khalil, who won an Emmy Award for her role as Lily Winters Ashby. Imagine that – firing an Emmy winner! The list of those also dropped includes Kevin Schmidt as Noah Newman; Genie Francis as Genevieve Atkinson; Marcy Rylan who played Abby Newman; Debbi Morgan as Harmony.
GLOBE has a detailed report in the print edition October 1st on the perils facing The Young and the Restless now that Jill is at the helm. Hollywood insider Tommy Lightfoot Garret tells GLOBE, “This is just the beginning.”
Tommy goes on to explain that by the time heartless Jill is through meddling with the show many fan favs will have been replaced: “The show is in the hands of a corporate headhunter. Firing is not a big deal to her. My late client Anna Lee was fired from General Hospital by Phelps, who wouldn’t even get on the phone with this beautiful elderly lady and tell her why she was being let go.”
Fans are outraged at Jill’s procrustean approach to management and knew that Genie Francis would be let go. Don’t forget that Jill had no qualms about dismissing Genie from her role as Laura Spencer on General Hospital – Tommy says that Jill “has her favorites” and Genie is certainly not one of them.
The GLOBE report on the nasty state of affairs on Y&R is detailed and should be read by every fan of the show. Once again GLOBE represents millions of Americans in their wish to see the afternoon TV dramas maintain their rightful and traditional place amongst the network’s priorities – and on their programming schedules!
