Amanda Bynes used to be a top dog in Hollywood’s teenage demographic, but as with all teenage cross-over stars, something went awry when her fame bubble popped. The beginning of the end for Bynes was after her 2010 appearance in the highly successful film, Easy A. Over the past two years, Hollywood casting directors tended to move away from the quirky and animated type of acting Bynes was famous for. In its place, comedic timing, sardonic dialogue, and eccentric acting became the buzzwords for young stars trying to make it big. (Emma Stone, Bynes’ co-star in Easy A, is a prime example of this neo-teen-comedy cinema.)
If a fresh, young face is able to better portray a character according to these new rules, it becomes evident that there isn’t really a place for the Bynes/Cyrus generation. Fast forward to May 2013, and we have Bynes posting topless photos of herself on Twitter.
In these recently released images, an almost unrecognizable Bynes poses with her arm over her exposed breasts. The torn stockings and the wild blonde hair paint a disturbing picture of pure desperation and failed redemption. Instead of being sensual and sexy, the 27-year-old actress looks more like an all-night prostitute on a Ritalin and Vodka binge, than a multi-million dollar celebrity. If this is Bynes’ attempt at breaking her typecast image, we suggest she follows another route, because casting directors don’t include semi-naked Twitpics in their final casting decisions.
Sex sells, and it sells well, but not if you’re a faux-Lohan trying to make it big on the prostitute circuit. What do you think? Do you think Bynes is falling apart?
