Big Brother 15 was one of the worst in its history. Now, we’re not saying it was the “worst” in terms of drama and entertainment; rather, we’re talking about the competitors’ behavior that got, in our opinion, quite out of hand. The entire premise of Big Brother — where lies abound and craziness is just the tip of the iceberg — sets everything up for a game that will definitely shock. That is, after all, the point of a reality TV show: healthy drama and a bit of scandal every now and again . . . . but when does snarky, clever, fun game play go too far and turn into bullying and outright hate?
Amanda Zuckerman entered the house last season and, while she didn’t win alongside her Man-Love and faithful follower (perhaps future husband) McCrae, she definitely went farther than we would’ve liked and somehow managed to rule the house — even though she couldn’t win a competition to save her life. We here at CDL like to call her the Evil Queen because she reigned over the house with an iron fist, and she didn’t care about the people she emotionally hurt and bullied in the process.
However, while Amanda was probably the meanest player (at least in our eyes), she was by no means the only nasty player. There were a slew of others, including Andy (the winner of BB 15), Spencer, Aaryn, and GinaMarie, among others. We just have to ask: Is Big Brother going to allow more controversy in the coming years, and has Amanda’s — and others’ — behavior set a precedent, a bar that future viewers will be expecting from now on?
Let us know what you think about future Big Brother seasons. Will producers encourage nasty play to generate strong ratings, ones grounded in angry discussion? Will they invite the Evil Queen back onto the show? Do you think people are being overly sensitive about what went down last season? Give us your opinions. We want ’em!
