Tonight on HBO what I consider one of the best television show today BOARDWALK EMPIRE continues with another new episode called, “Resignation.” On tonight’s show Harrow fails to finish a job in Milwaukee, while Eddie demands a promotion after 11 years of service. On last week’s show following his battle with Gyp Rosetti, Nucky made a peace offering to Joe Masseria while working the odds with Arnold Rothstein. While Chalky was busy running the Onyx Club on the Boardwalk, the impulsive Dunn Purnsley clashed with a booking agent. Fresh-faced Federal Agent Warren Knox arrives in Atlantic City to learn the ropes from Agent Sawicki. Gillian sought custody of her grandson, Tommy, while trying to find a “good” man to keep the Artemis Club afloat.
On tonight’s show now working as a “delivery man” for Dean O’Banion, Van Alden is ordered to keep tabs on Al Capone, joining the ascendant mobster to help keep Cicero voters “informed” at a political rally. Dr. Valentin Narcisse arrives in Atlantic City, clashing with Chalky and Nucky over the loss of an employee. In Washington, Agent Knox aligns himself with J. Edgar Hoover, acting director of the Bureau of Investigation. Harrow fails to finish a job in Milwaukee, while Eddie demands a promotion after 11 years of service. With a business opportunity on the horizon, Nucky departs for Florida.” Written by Dennis Lehane and Howard Korder, and directed by Alik Sakharov.

RECAP:
Richard comes home on this episode and it seems as if he’ll be staying around. He speaks with Emma, his twin sister, who says that she couldn’t handle it while he was away. She asks if he still likes to read. He says yes. She hands him a copy of The Chessmen of Mars. He opens the book, after she leaves the room, and finds a document that might suggest Emma’s in some financial trouble.
Nucky is being served breakfast by Eddie. Eddie’s hand starts shaking uncontrollably and he spills coffee all over the white table cloth. Eddie is having trouble, and he gets very defensive when Nucky suggests that he might need help with his daily tasks.
George Mueller is working in his flower shop and Al Capone’s men come in to collect their money; they ask him if he might want to come work for them, that they need someone who’s quick on his feet.
Chalky is showing some people his club — his future family-in-laws — and he insists that his daughter will have a proper ceremony. His little meeting is interrupted with news that nobody has found the dead girl yet.
Nucky arrives at the church construction site. Nucky talks with Ed, and he asks for his “cut.” Ed says that he’s not any part of this, but Nucky and his butler suggest that “he’s part of everything.”
Richard shows up to carry out his hit, but he doesn’t do it after asking if the man has family. He goes soft.
Nucky meets with his business partner. A young man by the name of Warren introduces himself to Nucky, and he tries to joke around with him, but Nucky isn’t having any of it. He says, “This is how it’s going to work. You’re never going to see me again. You’ll find it’s best that way.”
Chalky’s getting ready for his night. After surveying the place, making everything’s running smoothly, he walks into the back room. Dr. Narcisse is in there waiting for him. Narcisse asks if he can sit down. He says he’s there because one of Mr. White’s clients slashed the throats of one of his clients. The conversation doesn’t get very far. As he leaves, he says, “I like this room. One looks down in secret and sees many things. You know what I saw? A servant pretending to be a king.”
Nucky is being served again, and he says, “Perfect.” His butler hands him a package of money, and he also hands him a letter: his resignation. Nucky says that no matter what happens, there’ll always be a place for him there. But all the butler wants is respect — and he feels like he’s not getting it.
Emma and Richard are at their place. She asks for Richard’s help. Their dog’s dying. She wants to shoot it, but she doesn’t have any shells for her shotgun. She asks him to use his pistol to put the dog out of its misery. She says that she knows he hid it after he snuck off to the Veteran’s Bureau. He tries to shoot the dog — but he can’t. Similar to how he couldn’t shoot the man back at the Veteran’s Bureau. She says she’ll carry out the act. He can’t look, so he walks away, but before he does he says, “I don’t want any more of it.”
George arrives at Al Capone’s after being encouraged to visit him.
Meanwhile, Chalky reminisces about his experience with Dr. Narcisse. He looks out onto the dance floor from his office window and notices that the band has stopped playing. The bandmaster comes up and says that Narcisse told them to stop playing — that he owns a piece of them, “he owns a piece of everybody.” The young man hands Chalky a letter, but Chalky wants him to read it aloud. The boy proceeds. The letter says, “A servant is not greater than his master, nor is the messenger greater than the one who dispatched him.”
Bnucky is curious about the new addition to his team — Warren.
Al Capone visits a mayoral assembly and says, “Who’s feeling like a hero?” Capone and his man begin beating people with baseball bats. The place falls into chaos and, in the middle of everything, George is thumped in the head.
Chalky, Narcisse, Nucky, and the woman who was allegedly raped chat in the office of Chalky’s club. Nucky addresses Narcisse — and Narcisse insists that he call him “Doctor,” as he is a doctor of divinity. They discuss what it’ll take to get the acts back into the club, and Nucky ultimately presents him with a deal. “Ten percent of the club and the acts come back.” During the entire conversation, Chalky isn’t having any of it and just wants him to get the hell out of his club. Narcisse accepts the deal
Meanwhile, the FBI is trying to take Nucky down. Turns out that Warren was a bad egg and helping out officials. He walks in and reveals the money that he was given. Warren asks, ‘Why can’t they just admit they’re guilty.” The FBI dude says to “Warren,” . . . . “Good beginning, Jim.”
Doctor Narcisse and his men kill the woman he was “helping” and who was raped by Dicky.
Nucky proceeds to place more trust within his butler. He asks him to open up a safety deposit box to put the money they recently came into.
In the final scene, the woman’s body is found quite mangled. Wow, Dr. Narcisse is going to be one bad dude this season!
