Britney Spears has been pretty busy “Working.” She’s been strutting her stuff throughout the US and UK promoting her new single, “Work Bitch,” her eighth album, Britney Jean, and her upcoming Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood. The most surprising element of this promo tour is that Britney appears to be in a good place and actually sane. There are no weird incidents or crazy run-ins with the paparazzi or slurred words in interviews. She even talks in full sentences now – which is definitely an improvement from her judging stint on “The X Factor.”
I love seeing this new and improved Britney! And some can credit this to her father, Jamie Spears, intervening in 2008 to become her conservator. Although, Britney is doing much better in public, don’t expect her conservatorship to be lifted any time soon. Jamie recently filed court documents asking for more money from Britney’s estate to continue overseeing her professional and personal affairs.
Jamie currently receives $16,000 per month as her conservator and an additional $1,200 for office expenses. He claims in the documents filed on Oct. 15, “my rent has steadily escalated over the last three years, I request that I be reimbursed an additional $800.00 per month for my office expense for the time period of November 1, 2012, through August 31, 2013.” This reimbursement would total $7,200 if granted by the courts.
He also requested that his future office expenses be increased to $2,000. The office space in question is reportedly dedicated for “Britney’s activities.” As conservator, he oversees staffing, legal, medical, and family matters, costuming, and business negotiations. Jamie was an integral part in securing the deals with X Factor and Planet Hollywood.
“I continue to perform services to protect and care for Britney’s person and to administer her estate in good faith and in her best interests,” noted Jamie.
Since her father took control, Britney has had major comebacks with two successful albums and tours and she is often seen with her children doing normal family activities. Jamie has not been a public figure like other parents of some celebrities. Even Britney’s mother had her 15 minutes in the spotlight. I don’t think Jamie is asking for anything more than he feels is necessary to continue to work in Britney’s best interest. Besides, I’m all for it If it helps Britney continue to make good music with her four-note vocal range!
