There was an awful lot of backlash when it was announced that Dakota Johnson had snagged the coveted role of Anastasia Steele in the hotly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Now that Charlie Hunnam is gone the pressure on Dakota has increased. She was hired after testing well with Charlie and there is no guarantee that his replacement will be a good match. Dakota’s position is by no means secure. Fans already had a bunch of other actresses in mind for the role and Dakota’s name hadn’t been mentioned anywhere so it seems she is really going to have to prove that she can pull this off and fast – and with a new co-star! The BDSM film can easily make Dakota’s career, if it is done right and if she turns public opinion in her favor.
Right off the bat she is fearing that her mother, Melanie Griffith will turn into a nightmare to deal with while she focuses on becoming Ana. According to the Oct. 21st print edition of GLOBE magazine, Dakota already has issues with her mother, as Melanie likes to dress super sexy and often sees a bra as an unnecessary accessory. Plus she very blatantly hits on Dakota’s guy friends- talk about awkward!
Dakota also worries that if her mother is allowed any where near the Fifty Shades of Grey set then she’ll start directing her daughter’s love scenes and turn into the worst kind of stage mother. So how is Dakota attempting to get around all of these issues? She decided to take serious action and has already made it clear to her mother that she is basically banned from the set! Dakota pulling off this role proved more important than protecting Melanie’s feelings this time around. I guess the real question is whether or not Melanie will appease her daughter and stay away.
