Dancing With the Stars 2013 RECAP 4/22/13: Season 16 Episode 6

Dancing With the Stars 2013 RECAP 4/22/13: Season 16 Episode 6

DANCING WITH THE STARS is back tonight with the sixth episode of the 16 season and tonight DWTS will have a first.  For the first time in the history of the show the dancers will be dancing to songs from only one artist, the legendary, Stevie Wonder.  Did you see last week’s “Len’s Side By Side Challenge” performance show? We did and we recapped it for you HERE!

On last week’s show the competition continued as the 9 remaining celebrities tackled head judge Len Goodman called, “Len’s Side By Side Challenge.”  Each couple had to perform a portion of their individual dance alongside a pro dance couple.  On the result show the celebrity we lost last week was D. L Hughley.

On this week’s show the eight remaining couples hit the dance floor and pay tribute to singer, songwriter and legend Stevie Wonder. Stevie Wonder takes over the ballroom as “Dancing with the Stars” devotes, for the first time, an entire evening to one artist. He will perform some of his classic songs, including “Sir Duke” and “My Cherie Amour,” and the celebrities will dance to his greatest hits, including “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” “For Once in My Life” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).”

The dance assignments for the week are: Andy Dick & Sharna Burgess, Samba; Aly Raisman & Mark Ballas, Foxtrot; Victor Ortiz & Lindsay Arnold, Rumba; Zendaya Coleman & Val Chmerkovskiy, Cha Cha Cha; Ingo Rademacher & Kym Johnson, Tango; Sean Lowe & Peta Murgatroyd, Samba; Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough, Quickstep and Jacoby Jones & Karina Smirnoff, Quicksstep.

On Tuesday, one couple will be eliminated on “Dancing with the Stars the Results Show” (9:00-10:01 p.m., ET). The show will feature music by seven-time GRAMMY Award winner will.i.am performing his current single, “#thatpower,” and international superstar Olly Murs will perform his current hit, “Troublemaker.” In Addition, “Macy’s Stars of Dance” returns for its third installment of the season, choreographed by AJ Jones.

Tonight’s episode is going to have all the usual glitz and glam in the ballroom, which you won’t want to miss. Andy Dick and professional dancer Sharna Burgess dancing the Samba [VIDEO HERE]

Judges comments: Bruno: “It was a personality driven splendid Samba.  You did not quite make to Brazil.  It was very entertainment.  I could not work out the Samba steps.”  Carrie Ann:  “For so many reasons you are in my heart, but I had to look back and try to figure out what you were dancing.  You need to get horizontal.”  Len:  “I want you to do what you.  What you do it you come out here and give us fun.  Dance is about entertainment.  It was not that good technically, but others have climbed hills you have climbed mountains.”

SCORES: Carrie Ann: 6  Len:  6  Bruno:  6  TOTAL: 18/30

Sean Lowe and professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd danced the Samba [VIDEO HERE]

Judges comments:  Carrie Ann: “That is the most bounce I have seen in a long time.  You had to learn to listen to the music.  You have so much potential.  But the musicality, get an iPod.”  Len:  “You have to set your sights a bit higher if all you want to do is beat Andy.  The bounce action, you would just collapse.  It was riddled with mistakes.  It is not terrible.  I don’t get it why take your shirt off.”  Bruno:  “Sean look at the good side, you can always get a job as a stripper.  You looked like a lumberjack, you have to listen up.”

SCORES: Carrie Ann:  7  Len:  7  Bruno:  7  TOTAL: 21/30

Aly Raisman and professional dancer Mark Ballas dancing the Foxtrot [VIDEO HERE]

Judges comments: Len: “The technique could have  a bit more improvement. I loved the feather steps.  It was a really foxy foxtrot.  The performance level was high.”  Bruno: “Pretty as a picture and I think your technique is very good.  The only thing that lets you down is your frame. ”  Carrie Ann: “I think what is so nice you are really connected to your emotions.  You are an understated performer but you are headed to perfection.”

Kellie Pickler and professional dancer Derek Hough dancing the Quickstep [VIDEO HERE]

Judges comments: Carrie Ann: “I love your hair.  Perfect posture, perfect lines, perfect interpretation.  Except there was some space in your holds.”  Len: “For me, that is the best dance I have seen all season.  It is almost impossible for a couple to dance at that speed and not lose contact in the body.”  Bruno: “Even the professionals sometimes have space.  This was scrumptious, dancing of the best quality.  it was traditional and it was dancing of the best quality.  Superb!”

SCORES: Carrie Ann:  9  Len:  10  Bruno:  10  TOTAL: 29/30

Victor Ortiz and professional dancer Lindsay Arnold dancing the Rumba [VIDEO HERE]

Judges comments: Len: “We have had some great boxers on DWTS, you have gone more rounds than any of them.  Dance does not come easy and I know you come out with fighting spirit.”  Bruno: “It looked a bit like an airline safety drill, hips stuck on neutral and you lost your steps.  You are very charming.”  Carrie Ann: “What is amazing about you, there was no hip movement.  I thought the sparkle in your eye when you dance with Lindsay, I give you credit for that.”

SCORES: Carrie Ann: 6  Len:  6  Bruno:  6  TOTAL: 18/30

Jacoby Jones and professional dancer Karina Smirnoff  dancing the Quickstep [VIDEO HERE]

Judges comments: Bruno: “I got whiplash trying to look at you, your energy is amazing.  Room for improvement, but I enjoyed it”  Carrie Ann: “Each time you come out and you surprise me, you bring a new element.  I like the frame!” Len:  “I know it is Stevie Wonder night and it started out that way but by the end it was Beatle night and I was thinking of Help.  I admire, I like you and I am willing you every night to do well.  This dance did not suit you.  You did a good job with a hard dance.”
