Whenever you’re on an intensive rehearsal schedule for a dance competition, there’s bound to be some risk of injury. Unfortunately, Dancing With the Stars regular Karina Smirnoff was faced with that reality when she was rushed to the hospital after she received an injury at a rehearsal.
Smirnoff is no rookie, as we know, and she’s not new to either these rehearsals or injuries. However, she was said to have been practicing a flip with her partner when she reportedly ‘twisted her neck’ and ‘hit her face’.
The reports coming in state that Karina’s injuries include a possible dislocated jaw and whiplash. However, the semi-finals begin on Monday, so this begs the question: with a dislocated jaw, will Karina be able to participate?
According to the sources, Karina is still scheduled to dance, but we’ll have to wait until updates come in on her injury before making that assumption. A source for DWTS confirmed the injury, saying, “We can confirm Karina was injured during rehearsal yesterday and was taken to the hospital as a precaution.”
‘As a precaution’. That makes it sound as though her injuries were very minor – as far as we know, there is no way that a dislocated jaw would be considered minor. Then again, I’m not a dancer – maybe this type of injury is sustained often in rehearsals.
Do you think Karina will be ok? With a possible dislocated jaw, will she still be able to perform on the semi-finals? If she does, will it affect her performance and shot at the title two years in a row? After all, she is the defending champion of Dancing With the Stars. Let us know what you think in the comments.
