Isn’t there some kind of backlash every season once the new cast list for Dancing With the Stars is announced? It seems that way to me. Anyway, this time around fans are outraged because new cast members Corbin Bleu and Elizabeth Berkley both have serious dance training in their background. According to the Sept. 23rd print edition of GLOBE magazine Berkley’s parents enrolled her in dance at age 5 and she admits that at one point she was taking up to 17 dance lessons a week!
Bleu is one of the first students of Debbie Allen’s Dance Company and to say that her standards are high would be an understatement! So does it give them an unfair advantage? Even if it does, isn’t there always someone in every cast that that could be perceived that way? Every season they either sneak in a dancer of some sort or an Olympic athlete which knows an awful lot about training, muscle memory and discipline. Plus contestants in either of these categories are usually already in great which always gives them an edge over someone that has never danced and could stand to lose 20 pounds.
Do you think the backlash this time around will make a difference or is it just ultimately more of the same chatter that we hear each season? Do you think that some contestants begin with an unfair advantage? Should the DWTS’ powers that be do something to change the playing field the next time around? Either only cast celebs with a hint of experience or else make sure that no one has danced before? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
