Google Nexus 7 Holiday Gift Idea – “Made For What Matters” #Nexus7

I am a huge fan of The Amazing Race and when I saw adverts on television that the show was auditioning for The Amazing Race Canada I knew right away that I would love to try out and qualify. I headed over to the website and found out the audition process was as easy as 1, 2,3.   There was only one thing holding me back, someone to race with, a partner.

I got on the phone right away and called my sister Rosie and asked her if she would like to audition with me. Rosie was keen but had one reservation, how to communicate with our families while we were away. Rosie has twin boys, a doting husband and I have my husband, daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter!  If we were successful at getting a spot on the race we could be gone for up to one month.

We thought about lugging a laptop around in our backpack to communicate with the family, but realized that this would be awkward and heavy – hey, we want to win the race, not be weighed down. Next we considered bringing my regular tablet, but again that was large, fragile and heavy.

After a lot of research I discovered the Google Nexus 7 and it was perfect.  It is an affordable, lightweight sleek 7-inch tablet that fits in the palm of my hand.   The Nexus 7 is designed to help you balance life and work when you’re on the go and with 10 hours of battery time it is unbeatable.

The version of the Nexus I got was the “Google Nexus 7 Tablet 2nd Gen (NEXUS7ASUS-2B16), Android 4.3, 7″, 16GB, FHD, Black, By ASUS.”

One of the things that always worries me about getting new hardware is setup.  Generally, “easy” instructions mean hours of frustration, but I was pleasantly surprised with the Nexus 7.  It was simple and a very quick setup.  Another great feature of the Nexus 7 is that within an hour of activating my new tablet, I was offered an update to the very latest operating system.  I just tapped ‘OK’ sat back and watched while the work was done for me. Ideal for a none-techie like me.

One of the features we loved was that the Nexus 7 has a great camera with 1.2MP front facing, fixed focus and 5MP rear facing, auto focus.  All the pictures taken are saved at the default location and can be viewed in any gallery apps / file explorers.  I love taking videos and photos and it is nice to know I will be able to use my Nexus.

Another great feature of the Nexus 7 is that it has GPS (how handy for any amazing race!) and comes with Google Maps navigation.

Skype works with the Nexus 7 so we will be able to connect by video or phone chat with our loved ones making it easy to stay in touch with our family.

Not only do we want to chat with our family and keep track of what our friends are up to, but we especially want to share all the great things we were doing.  Luckily the Nexus 7 has most popular social networking apps like Google Plus, Twitter, and Facebook to name a few.

Here are some of the featured specs of the Nexus 7:

  • 7″ WUXGA (1920* 1200), 400 nits, LED backlight IPS panel with Scratch resistant Corning Fit Glass

It looks like I know what I will be buying my sister Rosie for Christmas this year, and at just $249, the 16GB Google Nexus 7 Tablet is amazingly affordable.  I will be heading out to Staples this week to pick up one for her!
