Dr. Z comes in after an all-nighter at the doctor’s office and she’s tired, but optimistic because after she took care of everyone during the flu epidemic, seems they’ve all decided she’s trustworthy. Z is telling Lavon how cool everyone in town is treating her but she notices he’s distracted and she wants to know what girl he’s looking for. He tells her he can’t tell her until he knows the thing is a thing and bails on her.
AB walks up and Lavon tells her how amazing the other night was – seems like they did the horizontal square dance. He said she sounded like it was amazing and she agrees it was but says it’s complicated.
In the corner shop, Frank gives Zoe a nice bottle of Pinot and she’s thrilled. But then he takes it from her and gives it to Jonah – a total hunk – who says he needs it to celebrate her going out to dinner with him. She tells him she already has a “friend” and he says that’s surprising. She leaves, irritated.
Esther comes in and asks for Brick. That’s the third patient today who has asked for her instead of Brick. She tells him the whole town is her BFF since the flu hit. Now Brick is irritated…
And next in line for irritation is Lemon who is sitting with AB when Shelby comes in all chatty about her San Antonio trip with Brick. Shelby tells Lemon that Brick wants a party for his birthday this weekend so he can formally introduce her as his girl.
Magnolia comes in and Shelby gives her a sweet compliment, but Mags isn’t buying it. Lemon says they will be rid of her soon and Mags is excited that her big sister is plotting. AB says the heart wants what it wants but Lemon fires back that we are not animals and can control who we sleep with. Uh-oh.
Zoe is getting ready to leave when AB comes in – she wants a consult and Brick says she should see him, but she refuses. AB thinks the pimple on her lip is VD because God is punishing her. Then Z figures out that it’s AB that Lavon is sweet on. She tells her that she has to tell Lemon because if she finds out on her own, she’ll be insane. AB asks her to role play some scenarios so she texts Wade and tells him she’ll be late.
When she finally makes it home, she finds him conked out and a beautiful dinner gone cold – aww – he even got her red roses… Next day at the Rammer Jammer, she finds Jonah and Wade chatting. Turns out Jonah is Lemon’s cousin – Brick’s nephew. Zoe pulls Wade aside and promises to make it up to him – he asks for sex – she says she wants to do more – and he asks for more sex. They make plans to head to a hunting cabin for the weekend to get busy getting busy.
Brick and Lemon are chatting about his party and Shelby and she’s asking her dad if he’s really serious. He asks her to give Shelby a chance. Jonah walks up and they go crazy with joy at him being there. Brick starts bragging to Jonah about Lemon 2.0 being selfless and kinder – a newer improved Lemon. Jonah asks if AB’s divorce is done – he’s always had a thing for her.
AB is practicing telling Lemon her big news when Lavon calls. He says things seem weird since they (you know) and asks if they can talk over dinner. She says yes, then no, then yes and then tells him she’s got to take care of something first.
Tansy’s dog Dolly Parton is chewing George’s shoe and he’s irritated (irritated is the theme of tonight’s show) about it. He tells her that he likes her except when she’s licking his face while he’s sleeping, eating his shoes and carrying on. Tansy asks him to babysit Dolly while she goes to Birmingham to do hair at a car show and he pretends to accept it but he’s uber-annoyed.
At Brick’s birthday planning party, Shelby, Lemon and Magnolia are chatting. Shelby suggests “Getting Wiggy With It” where everyone has to wear a wig. Lemon isn’t impressed with the ideas, but plays along and tells Shelby to pick her favorite and they’ll go along and help. Shelby hugs them and tells them it feels like she has two new sisters. She rushes out to shop. Mags is upset that Lemon isn’t scheming and she says she’s trying to be better. AB comes in and asks how Lemon and her BF Walt are doing and Lemon says they’re good, but AB is still struggling to tell her.
Lemon sets up Jonah and AB for a dinner date that night and won’t take no for an answer – AB can’t seem to muster any objections – awkward.
Brick and Zoe are having a doctor off to see who will get the weekend off. Brick wants off for his party and Zoe for her tryst with Wade. Whichever is the first to cure the next patient that comes in will get the weekend off. A mom comes in with her son (about three or four) who hasn’t been able to poop in days. Fun! Back to the irritation theme. Maybe one of them can aggravate the poo out of the kid!
Zoe tries to bribe Henry (the munchkin) but Brick wins by threatening him with an enema. So Brick gets the weekend off and is happy but then is crushed when Frank comes in to see Zoe instead of him. Z apologizes to Wade who is glum.
Brick tells Lemon that it’s not a good time to tell everyone he’s seeing Shelby despite what he said because of his reduced reputation in the town since Zoe blew up. They talk about cancelling the party.
AB is out at the Rammer Jammer with Jonah on her “date” when Lavon walks up on them and then walks out. She chases after him and says it’s not a real date. She explains that she tried to tell Lemon, but the faux date with Jonah was a test from Lemon. Lavon tells AB they’ve both moved on, but AB makes a face and Lavon realizes Lemon may not be over her.
George finds Dolly Parton in his bed and tells her to go to the couch. Instead, she heads out the door of the boat while George crashes. Uh-oh.
Wade hits up Jonah to fill in for Zoe over the weekend – turns out he’s a doc. Zoe is a little hesitant and says she can’t leave her patients with a stranger. A woman comes in for help and is thrilled to see Jonah. Seems like he’s not a stranger after all! Jonah shoos Zoe and Wade out the door and tells them to have fun.
Tansy comes back from her gig in Birmingham all smiles, looking for Dolly Parton. George tells her Dolly slept on the couch. The dog is not there and Tansy is freaking out. She tells him that Dolly is the one thing she’s always been able to count on in life. George tells her to make a flyer and she asks if she should use a picture of Dolly smiling.
At the hunting cabin, Zoe is focused on checking her messages and is irritated that there’s no signal. Wade is irritated that she is thinking about work and not him. She sees she missed a call from AB and heads out to climb a hill to get signal.
Mags meets up with Shelby and tells her that her dad cancels his birthday party every year and that they then throw him a surprise party. Uh-oh. Magnolia is scheming. Shelby was worried Brick wasn’t ready to introduce her to his friends but Mags reassures her that she’s like a pretty new Barbie, barely out of the box.
Zoe is talking to AB when Lavon beeps in. Zoe confesses that Lemon still had feelings for him as recently as the Mayoral election. Then she gets a beep from a patient – Cody – whose sprained ankle is swelling. She tells him she’s out of town and he says he’ll have Jonah look at it when they all head to the doctor’s office later. She wants to know what’s going on but then the call drops – and then she topples down the hill into the mud.
Lavon comes to see AB and tells her that Lemon has moved on and that they deserve to be happy. They kiss right there with the door open. Lavon asks if he should tell Lemon and she says no and he gladly accepts and bails out.
Z comes back to the cabin all muddy and Wade is laughing at her. She’s concerned about what’s going on at the doctor’s office and Wade tells her it could be one of Jonah’s epic poker games. He tells her that she’s enjoying all the attention a little too much. She gets smart and says it’s called career satisfaction which he would understand if… Zoe stops there, but it’s too late – she just epically insulted him. Wade tells her he’ll take her home.
Brick is toasting Shelby and the girls for a lovely birthday dinner. Lemon gets a text inviting her to their dad’s birthday party. Lemon drags Magnolia away from the table and is outraged with her little sister’s scheming. Mags says she thought she would be proud. Lemon is disgusted – more like with herself. Magnolia convinced Shelby to jump out of a cake and do a sexy dance but she confesses at the last minute and Shelby asks if this was her plan to get rid of her. Mags says yes and Shelby thanks her and she and Brick leave. Apparently there was an “emergency” that he has to attend to at the doctor’s office.
George is looking everywhere for Dolly Parton and finds her near the docks crying. She’s scared of the water and is whining and he can’t get to her. He remembers that Tansy told him singing Jolene can calm her down. He has to sing it loud and in full before the frightened doggie will come to him. Aww.
Back in town, Wade is dropping Z off as she tries to apologize. She says she’ll check in at the office and then meet him and he tells her to take her time. Zoe heads into the office and finds the whole town there. She blows up at them all and accuses them of turning on her in favor of Jonah. She tells them all “shame on you.” But then Brick comes in and they all yell “surprise” leaving her red faced at her foot in mouth situation.
Magnolia told Shelby that her dad cancelled the party because he thought people finding out they were together would damage his practice. Shelby doesn’t look too pleased at hearing about Brick’s being possible ashamed of her. Matter of fact, she looks downright irritated – the theme of this episode!
Mags comes up to Lemon at the party and reveals she told Shelby the cake was a bad idea. Lemon seems to think the crisis is averted. AB comes and pulls Lemon aside – Lemon wants to know about her date with Jonah. AB tells her that she has feelings for Lavon – feelings that took her by surprise. Lemon asks if something has already happened between them and AB admits it has. Lemon takes a deep breath and says she’s been trying hard to be kind and forgiving, but she feels like being unladylike. She tells AB she can never look at her the same way ever again.
Bricks tells Lemon his party is fun but wants to know where Shelby is. That’s when the big cake comes in and Shelby comes out of it doing a sexy dance to Fever! Brick is in complete shock.
Jonah joins Zoe on the steps outside and says the party just took a turn for the weird. He tells her he misses Bluebell and that it’s hard to leave a place like this. He tells her he stays in touch with all things Bluebell by reading Dash’s blog. He says they always say nice things about her – he says that if Brick has a few drinks in him, he’ll even admit she’s nice.
Jonah says he’s thinking about opening up an office there. She tells him that there are enough doctors and Breelands in town.
By the time Shelby finishes up her dance, Brick is entranced and the rest of the town is digging it. Everyone applauds and Brick introduces her to everyone as his girlfriend. Lemon and Magnolia agree to put a stop to their dad’s romance with her once and for all.
Tansy finds George snuggling with Dolly on the sofa. Turns out he’s attached to her now. He tells Tansy that she can rely on him too.
Zoe comes to see Wade and tells him she’s sorry and booked them a room at a fancy B&B for the next weekend. She apologizes for saying he didn’t have a career. He tells her she’s right – that he’s never had one and doesn’t look forward to going to work. He tells her he only felt focused when he was working on the plans for his own bar. He decides to give it another shot and they kiss.
AB shows up at Lavon’s and tells him it can’t happen. She tells him she has to win back Lemon’s trust and until then says she doesn’t deserve to be happy. Zoe turns off her phone and puts on some sexy lingerie and they commence kissing. There’s a knock at the door and it’s a whiny Lavon, moaning because he got dumped. He’s got a bag of donuts and asks them to help him eat his feelings. He laments that he’s a former NFL player and it should be easier for him to get a girl.
The End!
