Jennifer Lawrence just cut her hair into an adorable, short bob. She showed off her new haircut at her first televised appearance since the Oscars, at the GLAAD media awards. Along with Harvey Weinstein, she presented Bill Clinton with an award (for staying married to Hillary?), but didn’t grant interviews before or after the ceremony. Of course, all the Internet has been buzzing about since then is her new haircut and whether or not it suits her.
So what caused this drastic change in hairstyle for Miss Lawrence? According to Mark Townsend [Jennifer’s hairstylist], Jennifer got a ‘sudden’ urge to cut off her hair before the event. Townsend told Harper’s Bazaar, “Jennifer showed up an hour before call time and as she opened the door she was like, ‘Mark, I want to cut it all off’.’ I was like, ‘What? Are we allowed to do that?’ And she said, ‘Of course, it’s my hair! As I cut, I lost track of how many times [Jennifer] said, ‘I love it!’ She was super excited. It’s the shortest her hair has been in her whole life.”
Now, Jennifer has contracts with two huge studios as either the lead or a major supporting character in their blockbuster franchise movies. We’ve seen from Harry Potter how Emma Watson wasn’t allowed to cut her hair for ten years and eight movies, and we’ve seen the fuss Summit put up when Kristen Stewart had to cut her hair for The Runaways. Now, Jennifer certainly carries more clout than either Emma or Kristen right now, considering her recent awards run and her place as Hollywood’s darling new leading lady, but I don’t think she’ll be able to piss off two major studios and get away with it.
That leads us to the conclusion that Jennifer’s haircut is for X-Men: Days of Future Past. Jennifer is set to be flying out to Montreal next week, and if people remember correctly, Jennifer’s Mystique didn’t sport long hair in First Class. She wore a short haired wig, with her long hair wrapped underneath the hairpiece. So – either Jennifer got orders to cut her hair, or she realized that it would be much easier to cut her hair than have to wrap voluminous hair under a cap each morning.
Now, if the reports about The Hunger Games: Mockingjay shooting in September are correct, then that might be a bit of a problem considering that it’s unlikely Lawrence’s hair will grow back to its original length by then. It might be a Kristen Stewart/Eclipse situation where Lawrence will get wigged up as Katniss, but hopefully with a better wig.
