The MTV Movie Awards were even worse this year than they were last year, and that’s really saying something. However, it’s pretty much a given that most people who tuned in did so to see the highly anticipated trailer for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.’ However, Catching Fire’s biggest star, Jennifer Lawrence, did not turn up to present the trailer, nor to accept the multitudes of other awards she won [Best Kiss, Best Female Performance, etc.]. As arguably the biggest draw for the awards, why wasn’t she there?
Well, for one thing, she was never scheduled to attend. Although MTV producers leaked a report to Deadline saying that Lawrence was a ‘no-show’, meaning that she either cancelled at the last minute or didn’t bother to cancel at all, most sources say Lawrence was never confirmed to attend in the first place. Of course, a lot of people are taking the Deadline report seriously and have started calling out Lawrence for being unprofessional and thinking she’s above the MTV Movie Awards.
Well, there’s a lot of counter points to that. For one thing, Lawrence wasn’t scheduled to attend – if you don’t believe that, do you really think that MTV wouldn’t have been pimping out her appearance every chance they got if she was really going to come? She’s the biggest star in the world right now, and it would have been her presenting the Catching Fire trailer, not second tier Liam Hemsworth.
No, this whole situation is clearly MTV trying to save face for what was a dragging and dreadful two hours. The show was terrible, and the audience was clearly visibly upset when Bradley Cooper took the stage after winning Best Kiss and announced that Jen wasn’t going to be there. So MTV’s solution? Oh, blame it on the star. For all intents and purposes, Jennifer’s rep has confirmed that she was never going to attend in the first place because there was always a ‘scheduling conflict’ a.k.a. Jennifer was busy shooting one of the twenty thousand movies she has in production right now. She didn’t bail on MTV, but MTV certainly threw her under the bus with that report, didn’t they?
