For those of you who did not watch the Billboard Music Awards [Lucky you!] or read news coverage this morning, we’re here to tell you that Justin Bieber was booed last night when he went to collect an award. What, Jusin Bieber booed?! That’s right – one of the biggest music sensations in pop culture seems to be nearing the end of his era.
To be fair, Justin did bring this all down on himself. As the recipient of the first ever Milestone award [beating Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift], he should have realized that the award was fan-voted and thereby completely useless in terms of actual prestige. We all know that the Beliebers are crazy, and that doesn’t point to anything substantial about Justin’s talent, only his ability to make teenage girls act loony. However, Justin went up on stage and treated the whole thing as if it was a damn Grammy or Oscar that he was getting.
He spoke about how he’s ‘an artist’ and how he deserves to be taken seriously, all the while intermixing his ‘dawgs’ and ‘mans’ into the speech. Ok, first of all – you are not a gangster. Second of all, what’s with your damn accent? Lastly, this is a FAN VOTED award! Who exactly was he trying to convince that he’s an artist?! No wonder he got booed. The people in the audience have enough of narcissistic famous people trying to make themselves feet better, they don’t need a 19-year-old wannabe punk trying to tell them that he deserves anything.
I mean, if he wants to be taken seriously, he needs to learn to take himself seriously. Look at Justin Timberlake – he stopped trying so desperately to win people’s approval, he slowly faded into the background, toned down his ‘ME, ME, ME’ attention-seeking tactics, and worked on his music. Eventually, he won over people on his own terms – although he has returned to his ME ME ME tactics lately. Bieber needs to take a leaf out of Timberlake’s playbook, and learn to tone down his demeanor and concentrate on making music. I mean, even his own girlfriend is embarrassed to be seen with him – that should tell you something.
