We hope this doesn’t apply to the child psychologists she’ll eventually be court-ordered to see! Kate Gosselin has been on a bender of good publicity—the almost unemployed TV mom has been blasting loving mom vibes for anyone who will listen, mostly by sharing cooking pictures or stories about hugging her kids. The optimistic hippie in me was all too happy to buy the act—what can I say? I sincerely want her children to be raised in a healthy environment! Is that so wrong?—but Kate put her foot in her mouth by agreeing to an episode of Celebrity Wife Swap with Kendra Wilkinson! We were skeptical that she was just biding her time before a big media assault, and we were right!
Of course, the announcement has spurred a lot of criticism—mostly from me, I think—because most humans don’t think that abandoning your children to be raised by a sex star for the sake of a TV show is good parenting. Call us old fashioned! But, in truly clueless form, Kate is pushing on, insisting that she won’t listen to her critics! I can understand blocking out haters, but is it so wrong to wonder aloud (or through this blog) whether the fame whore move will be healthy for her kids? Kate shared her new saying on Twitter: “I don’t care what you think about me. I don’t think about you at all.”
It’s a Coco Chanel quote, but we think Kate is being a little to free with it! The woman has made a fortune by making people care about her—for better or for worse, every day we make the decision whether or not to read her blog, follow her Twitter, read her book, and watch her TV show. As far as her income and ratings go, she should be caring about us—a lot! Honestly, I am seriously sick and disgusted by Kate. She seemed to be on the right track, but has somehow gone careening out of control down a raging river of small screen prostitution. Do you think it’s time for Kate to retire to raise her children, or is this forced exploitation what’s really best for her family?
