Queen Elizabeth has been an old warhorse when it comes to enjoying good health. The 86-year old monarch spent last summer celebrating 60 years on the throne and has looked great for her age. It seems a round of bad health has side swiped the Queen now though, causing her to cancel several scheduled engagements in Wales.
She was supposed to present leeks – the vegetable is the national symbol of Wales – to members of the 3rd Battalion The Royal Welsh as part of the St David’s Day, among other things but according to an official statement released,
“The Queen will no longer visit Swansea as she is experiencing symptoms of gastroenteritis. She will be assessed in the coming days. Her Majesty is currently spending the weekend at Windsor, as usual.” –
In other words, she has a stomach virus or as they say in England, “the trots”. For you and I a bout of this is lousy but not the end of the world but for a woman in her 80’s it’s a serious problem. Even the strongest older women are still relatively frail once the vomiting and body heaving begins. The flu could cause serious problems and lead to general illness of the aging queen.
Kate Middleton attended a friend’s wedding yesterday and carried on, business as usual while creeping further into her pregnancy. No doubt things between her and Camilla Parker-Bowles are tenser than usual right now. The queen is rumored to have assured Prince William that he will ascend the throne before his father if an heir was produced. Kate getting pregnant and surviving those first few months really pissed Camilla off because she wants her seat on the throne beside Prince Charles. If William passes out his father then Camilla will never be queen and I think somewhere in her drunken, screwball mind she really believes that the title would bring her missing respect.
The British have never embraced Camilla and Charles has become a letter writing joke. There’s no reason to think that William wouldn’t be the best choice for King and everyone knows it.
