Prince Harry is not known for princely behavior – in fact, his reputation is plagued by decidedly unroyal antics! Besides naked parties, drunk nights, and a former fondness for marijuana, Harry loves video games. The Apache helicopter pilot returned home from a 4-month tour of Afghanistan last week, and is already causing an international crisis. The young prince compared actual deadly combat to video games, in essence making light of war and death, and this might put sister-in-law Kate Middleton, Prince William, and the coming royal baby, at risk.
“It’s a joy to me,” Harry said of flying the Apache. “I’m one of those people who love playing PlayStation and Xbox, so with my thumbs, I like to think I’m quite useful.” Harry isn’t the first to compare modern video games to war—in the US, some commercials for the armed forces even start as video games, then turn to real life troops.
Harry has confirmed several Taliban killings while at war, and the terrorist group is not thrilled with his new comparison. They’ve accused him of having “a mental problem,” since he’s deeply insulted them by comparing wartime killings to a video game. The prince also defended his role in the army, noting, “If there’s people trying to do bad stuff to our guys, then we’ll take them out of the game.”
Harry’s words may have a negative affect on his family. Prince William and Kate are finally pregnant, and precautions for the new heir are already underway—including a bomb proof car seat! We’re wondering what repercussions Harry’s careless words could have on the safety of his brother and the royal baby, who are already under such watchful eyes. Do you think Harry’s comments were innocent, or should he be more thoughtful when it comes to war and death?
