Prince William and Kate Middleton are continuing to break tradition and blaze a new trail for royals everywhere. They have decided to go Prince George‘s christening without the usual contingent of uncles, aunts, and extended family. In fact, they’ve left Princess Anne and Sophie off the guest list, which is actually a HUGE snub.
A report from the Daily Mail read, “Prince William’s aunts, Princess Anne and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, have been left off the guest list, the Mail was told last night. And although Buckingham Palace refused to comment, it seems George’s great-uncles, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, are also not attending.”
The ceremony is set to take place on October 23rd, but the fact that such major figures in the royal family have been left off the guest list is definitely unusual. Kate and Will continue to prove that they don’t care about rules and traditions, but you know what? Payback is payback. Anne and Sophie were not completely welcoming [allegedly] to Kate when she first joined the family, so she is going to return the favor. Besides, I have a feeling Will and Kate want things a lot more intimate for George, and inviting all the extended aunts, uncles, etc. would not constitute ‘intimate’.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Kate and Will did this for every major event in George’s life, including birthdays, celebrations, etc. They want to give him as normal of a childhood as possible, and that won’t work if they stick to royal tradition.
